"I held
the stars in
my arms
when I
held you."

Kira was happy.

That was a lie.

Or was it?

No, she was happy. She was happy with Regulus, happy with her home, and happy with her new job in the Department of Mysteries that was offered to her last week.

She was also worried, and stressed.

Regulus had been attending many Death Eater meetings and each time he left, Kira feared for his life. The war was picking up it's speed. More and more deaths appeared in the Daily Prophet each week. It got so overbearing at one point, that Kira stopped reading it.

Kira was seated on one of the chairs by the kitchen counter that extended into a table with her hands around a cup of coffee.

She looked up at the clock to her left. 1:00am.

She was waiting for Regulus to return.

He had never been out so late before.

"Come home, Regulus." She whispered to herself, clenching her fists.

The sound of her fingers tapping against her ceramic mug echoes through the downstairs of the silent house. She stared at a groove in the granite counter, her thoughts running wild in her mind.

He would come home.

The sound of the door clicking open and footsteps entering calmed her nerves and she let out a sigh of relief, looking up at the ceiling.

She hopped off of her chair and turned around.

Regulus chuckled as she collided with him, wrapping her arms around his neck. He wrapped his arms around her waist, picking her up and spinning around before setting her down. His hands never once left her waist.

"You're okay," she whispered, her hands moving to touch his jaw and cheeks, confirming he really was there.

"I'm okay," he whispered in return, moving his hands from her waist to cup her face.

"Where were you?" She asked, concerned etched into her face.

He leaned forward to rest his forehead against hers and closed his eyes.

"You-Know-Who needed something." He began. "He wanted to borrow Kreacher, the house elf at my parents' house."

Kira hummed, urging him to continue.

"He came back, and told me what he was needed for." He gulped. "He has a Horcrux. Kreacher can get me to it and I can get it and destroy it so he can be defeated."

"Slow down, Reg," she said. He had stepped two steps back and was going off on a ramble. "What's a horcrux?"

"It's something a person can trap their soul in, something like that. I heard Lucius talking it to Cissa. I didn't know You-Know-Who had one until tonight."

"And you want to go take it?" He nodded. She sighed, "Reg. You can't," she begged, looking into his eyes.

"Why?" He asked, his voice growing concerned.

"It's too dangerous," she hissed, tears threatening to fall. "When you weren't back by six I started getting so worried that you'd been tortured, murdered, anything bad happening. All the horrible thoughts of what could have happened to you.

"Regulus, he'll have protection wards up, and he'll come for you if he finds out. It's too dangerous, Regulus. Please. I can't lose you."

Regulus stepped forward and wrapped his arms around her shoulders, pulling her as close as he could.

He wanted to go. He needed to go.

But he wouldn't. For now. For now, he would listen to Kira.

"I won't go," he whispered, only to have Kira squeeze him tighter.

He knew what she was feeling and he understood. He wouldn't let her go either.

Kira pulled a baggy t-shirt over her head and climbed into the bed where Regulus laid. She crawled under the covers and snuggled into him, resting her head on his chest.

He put an arm around her her back and closed his eyes.

"I love you," he whispered.

"I love you too, Reg."

Regulus sighed and stroked gentle circles on her shoulder as she fell asleep.

For his whole life, Regulus felt like the bad guy. Now he had a chance to be the good guy, to find and destroy Voldemort's Horcrux.

He needed to go but he couldn't.

Seeing Kira had sent his mind into a spiral. She was so worried. So worried that something bad had happened to him and he hated seeing her like that.

He couldn't put his life at risk like that. He'll have to find another way to ensure Voldemort's defeat, one that wouldn't hurt Kira.
