Sejanus sees it from the moment he turns on the TV. Coriolanus, being the hard working, amazing mentor he is (see father, that's someone who deserves their money. Their reputation. Someone who works for everything, yet has wealth but doesn't use it at every chance they get), has gone to see the tributes early and is now stuck in their pen at the zoo. It sends a jerk of worry through Sejanus, but the blond seems to have it under control and-
He's talking with his tribute, towards the camera and smiling at her. Something dangerous sparks there, and Sejanus is sure he's imagining it, until Snow finally gets out of that cage and gives Lucy Grey a kiss on the hand. Sejanus spots the rose and his stomach irks.
He had convinced himself it was jealousy for quite a while, shushing his thoughts and telling himself it was okay as long as Corialanus was happy, but that didn't last very long. It became evident that the relationship between Coryo and Lucy Grey was not something Sejanus had imagined, and they were not as pure as they seemed.
Many mentors (nearly all of them) referred to their assigned tributes as their tributes (it was a normal thing for Capitol children to believe they owned the District people, even when not referring to individuals), but the way Coryo said it... the way his chest puffed out and his ego immediately doubled in size when someone talked about Lucy Grey as his girl... was worrisome to say the least.
He had overheard his friend mutter to himself about the District 12 tribute when he had thought no one was near, and the things he had said made Sejanus' stomach twist, and not in jealousy. The way Coryo had clearly begun to see Lucy Grey as his and his alone, as something he owned and something he deserved to himself (not only as a tribute, but as a lover, as a possession) was starting to hurt the both of them, and something told Sejanus that this would catch fire soon enough.
And still, the way Coriolanus glowed everytime the mentorship or his tribute was mentioned, the way he seemed truly happy and dependent on his girl made Sejanus back away. Maybe he was reading this wrong, maybe Coryo was just really into some sort of ownership kink (the thought made Sejanus go red and spit out his morning tea, earning strange glances from his mother and the Avoxes, as well as a scolding from his father) that was completely consensually from both sides of his relationship with Lucy Grey.
Not to mention, Sejanus had a lot of his own problems, with Marcus running away (not that that was the problem, no, Sejanus just hoped that Marcus had escaped, back to Two, or Thirteen or somewhere safe that wasn't Dr. Gaul's lab) and the actual Games starting up... and there he was. Marcus. Dead, but what did Sejanus expect. When the Districts strike the Capitol strikes back twice as hard.
So, being the only thing Sejanus could think to do, he went to the arena and gave Marcus some bread crumbs for the journey home. Maybe Lucy Grey or Reaper or some other tribute would come out and kill him quickly so that his father could get the body out and pay his way into the shadows before dawn. Maybe his death would actually do something, maybe-
And then Coryo, his only hope, the love of his life, came to his rescue. Well, now Sejanus couldn't not look out for his friend, even if it just came to Lucy Grey. But the Games went by so fast that he hardly had time to switch on the TV until it was down to the last five, then three, then two, then- Reaper froze, Lucy went to check his pulse, and milliseconds later she was announced as the winner of the 10th Hunger Games.
Sejamus planned to talk with the both of them at the banquet (which everyone was sure Lucy Grey would attend), when he was informed that a few hours after the game, Coriolanus had jumped on a train to become a Peacekeeper and Lucy Grey was on her way back to District Twelve.
