Before we get started, this book is not just a series of letters. (Majority of the beginning will be.)
9 YEARS BEFORE:
"Delilah, stop touching your dress," Lysandra Allais said to her daughter, shaking her head.
Five-year-old Delilah pouted, "It's too poofy," she said, patting it down once more.
Lysandra sighed, "It's just for one night and then you never have to wear it again, alright? You can have a less poofy one next year."
"We have to go to this next year?" Jamie said, frowning. "I didn't even want to go to the ball this year, none of my friends are here."
"You don't have friends, Jamie," said Delilah, sticking her tongue out at her brother.
Christian groaned and pressed his hand to his temple, "Enough fighting, tonight is to have fun with other pure-bloods like us. You will behave yourselves and I expect that you will also make new friends. Especially you, Jamie."
When they go to the Malfoy Manor, it was lit with thousands of lanterns. The whole manor shone brightly against the dark night sky. Classical music could be heard coming from the large dining room. When the Allais family walked in they heard chattering and laughter from all of the other families who were attending.
The clinking of wine glasses, the hand-shaking, the music, the ball gowns and suits, it was like a ball in the fairytales that Delilah had read. She looked at Jamie, who had offered to hold her hand. Delilah took it gratefully and the two children walked in beside their parents.
Only a few noticed they were there. Lucius and Narcissa Malfoy came over to greet the family as they were the hosts of this event. Delilah and Jamie spent the night sitting down, watching as their parents attempted to make business deals and friends.
"Hello, my father said I had to come and talk to you." a little boy said, coming over to Delilah with a sunken look on his face. "My name's Draco Malfoy."
"I'm Delilah Allais, it's a pleasure to meet you," said Delilah politely, smiling a little.
Draco returned the smile, "Would you like to dance?"
6 YEARS BEFORE:
Delilah Allais sprinted across the road at top speed, it was her best friend's birthday and she had to make sure that she was the first person to say 'Happy Birthday'. It had become a tradition over the years — wake your them up with a scream of 'Happy Birthday'. Childish, but effective.
Delilah struggled to climb the ladder that led to his bedroom, her eight-year-old body not being tall enough to get up there in only five long reaches. When she finally got to the top she slid the window up, feeling the warm air that had been circling around the bedroom. She caught a glimpse of the blond-haired boy who lay, curled into the velvet green blanket and smirked at him, he had no idea how much he was going to regret becoming friends with her.
She crept around the room, trying to be as quiet as possible. Sneaking right up to his ear she cupped her mouth and screamed, "HAPPY BIRTHDAY PRAT!"
A howl of laughter filled the room as Delilah watched Draco Malfoy jump out of his bed and stumble to the edge of the room, shouting many curse words that an eight-year-old definitely shouldn't know.
"Delilah!" screamed Draco furiously when he had finally calmed down. "Oh come on! That was the worst one yet!"
The pounding noise of footsteps could be heard from a mile away. Narcissa and Lucius Malfoy stomped up to Draco's room, their wands held high. The two of them should have known that it was just Delilah for Draco's birthday, but it skipped their mind just like every other time it had happened.
