It is odd, the things your remember when you are watching someone die. Did they have family? Was there more you could have done? Did you leave the oven on at home? You don't want to die but feel like dying everyday. What is the point? You remember the sweet things in life and the bitter things.
Your crush in the third grade that lit up your world for a week before rejecting you like a bird to moldy bread, something desperately trying to grasp something finer in life. Your mother giving birth to you and leaving you to figure things out on your own with an alcoholic for a father at eight years old. You can only shake your head in an attempt to shake away those memories. Where are you again? Oh, that's right, the person dying before you.
They are writhing in such an agony, you can't seem to take your eyes away. There is nothing you can do now. Did they deserve such an agonizing death? Did they deserve death at all? The knife in their neck looks to be the culprit, but what do you know? You are no Sherlock after all.
You crouch next to them, careful as to not get any blood on your new shoes. They are gurgling and sputtering with fear in their eyes. The knife had gone in straight and clean, without a doubt. You give a comforting expression to relax the dying person, reassuring them it would be all over soon.
It is amazing how quickly someone dies. Blood reeks with a heavier scent than most imagine, smelling of strong iron. It is certainly thicker than you imagined it being. You pinched a corner of their coat, pursing your lips at the fabric being ruined by their own blood. Pitiful. It was such a nice coat. Ever so casually, you grab the knife out of their neck before standing. Their blood doesn't spurt or squish but rather just pours out of their neck like a thick, burgundy syrup. You can't leave the culprit there. What kind of murderer leaves their best knife at the scene? As you leave them to die in the alley, you think it odd the things you remember when you are watching someone die.
