December 3, 2022. Floor 1 – Forest Field
Right now, we're on our way to the boss room. After a quick briefing from Diabel this morning, we immediately hit the road. Since our group is filled with a lot of high-level players, we don't really have troubles from the monster on the road.
"Let's go over it again." Kirito said to me and Asuna. "We leftovers are supposed to target the boss's helpers, the Ruin Kobold Sentinels."
The raiding party was divided into six groups. Group A, B, C would focus on attacking the boss while D, E, and F would focus on attacking the boss's helper. And that's where we came in, our party was assigned as group F.
"Okay."
"I'll use a sword skill to knock their pole axes up. The second I do, switch in."
"Switch?" We asked in unions.
Kirito stops in his track and turn to us, "Is this the first time both of you have ever been in a party?"
We nod.
Kirito sigh before explaining to us what switch is. Basically, it's a party move where someone in the front would switch rows with a player in the back. This move will give the party the flexibility to launch an offensive and defensive move. Kirito also explains a few basic pieces of knowledge we need to know about how to play in a party. Not just that, he also gave us an explanation of how to use our sword skills better. Sword skill in SAO is a combat movement that is assisted by the system. It is active when a player performs the appropriate Pre-Motion move for a skill, such as raising a sword atop one's shoulder, taking a stance, etc. It really helps us learn more about the game. A thought then strikes me, Kirito does know a lot about this game.
As we make our way through the dungeon fighting the small monster that blocking our path to the boss room. Kirito makes us practice a few things that he just teaches us. We didn't do anything major, we just practice the basics on a live target. Kirito mentor us as he shows a few techniques to easily master the sword skill that can match a few different play styles. He shows Asuna how to use it without losing the momentum of speed in battle, and for me, he shows how to use it on a heavy strike for a perfect parry. He warns us not to get our hopes up to master it in a short time, since it need a lot of practice to perform the move that he just demonstrate to us.
After an hour of walking, we finally arrive in front of the boss room. Diabel move in front of us before turning back, stabbing his sword to the ground to gain everyone's attention, "Listen up, everyone! I have only one thing to say. Let's win!" He finished with a confident smile.
Everyone nods before he lifts the sword and opens the door behind him. We carefully enter the boss's room. It was a massive room with a lot of pillars forming a path to the throne where the boss sits. The room was a little dark since the only source of light is coming from the outside. When we arrived halfway through the room, the wall suddenly glows, lighting it up, and the boss jump from its throne and land in front of us. He roars as his name pops up on top of his head. Illfang the Kobold Lord, that's the name of the boss who guards this floor. He's a Kobold Lord, he's around 5m tall, carrying a sword and shield in his hand. He also carries an extra sword on his back. Monsters then spawn near him, Ruin Kobold Sentinel. The boss looked at us before roaring and starting to charge with his minion.
Diabel raised his sword as he commands us to move forward, "Commence attack!"
Everyone charges at the enemy as we roar and move forward. Our raid party then clashes weapons with the enemy. The boss moves to strike everyone, but groups A and B hold them off. As soon as the boss was stager by the parry of both groups, people in group C launch an attack.
