It happened when he was on a mission.

And, if you were perfectly honest, you preferred that over him being there, the sole reason being that you had no idea how he would react to it happening.

You had been merely sitting on your couch, nose in a book. You were using the book as a distraction from the feeling in your stomach that, no matter how hard you tried, just wouldn't go away.

The feeling that something was going to go wrong.

You had no idea what it was. Were you about to hear a knock on the door, only for someone high up to tell you that your husband had died? You hoped that wasn't the case, but Tobirama Senju had some powerful enemies out there that you didn't even want to name in fear of it being some form of curse.

Even thinking of it was a curse, it seemed, as the second the thought left your mind, your stomach seemed to cramp up. You tried to ignore it, but as the feeling gradually grew worse, you realized you couldn't ignore it much longer. You made a mad dash up your stairs towards the washroom, shutting and locking the door behind you.

You didn't know what it was. That is until you saw the blood.

You were more than sure the neighbours must have heard you, but that didn't even cross your mind when you began to scream out of sadness and terror. It was too early for the baby to be ready to be born, so when your common sense kicked in, you sobbed even louder.

You had miscarried.

Slowly, after quite a while of sobbing, you stood, getting rid of any clothing that could potentially get in the way of your bleeding. You managed to make your way towards the bathing area, knowing that your husband would be furious if you dirtied the bed in any way.

And so, for several hours, you sat there, merely letting the excess spill out of you as you continued to sob, already missing your dead child.

Apparently, you had fallen asleep. The pain knocked me out, most likely, you thought to yourself as you slowly brought yourself into the world of consciousness. The world still seemed distant, and all you wanted was to fall asleep and never wake up. When you were sleeping, you didn't have to think about the loss you just experienced. You didn't have to think about how your husband would react to the loss of his child. His heir, the heir he would never get to meet.

You weren't sure if not having an heir was a huge deal or not to Tobirama. He wasn't the eldest child; Hashirama was, and you had no doubt in your mind that Mito wasn't going to deny him.

That was the last thought in your mind before you reached your bed and lazily throwing a towel down.

You fell asleep, more than likely not even a minute after you laid down, making sure the towel was underneath you.

You were shaken awake by Mito, your sister-in-law.

You groaned at the sight of her. Not that you didn't like her, you considered her one of your closest friends because your husbands were brothers, and that simply meant you spent a lot of time together.

You just didn't want her to reprimand you for whatever it was that you had done.

"Y/N," she spoke, looking you directly in the eye, "you haven't reached out to me in three days. Is everything alright?"

You nodded, not wanting to admit anything. "Yeah... I'm fine. I've just been sick."

Well, it wasn't entirely a lie.

She hummed in response, looking down towards your bed. "I thought you were with child. Was that a lie to get my husband off his brother's back about having a child?"

Your eyes widened as you shook your head. "What!? No! I- I am with child. Well... was with child, anyway." You looked away from her as tears began to fill your eyes. You didn't want to cry in front of her.

"That explains the blood, then." She sighed, looking towards the door with her eyes narrowed. "You should tell him, you know."

"What!? You exclaimed, looking at her once again. "But- but I can't! I- he's on a mission, I have no way to contact him."

"The mission ended early," she responded, walking towards the closed door and opening it. "I'll let Tobirama know you're awake. Meanwhile, Hashirama and I will give you some privacy."

You vaguely heard her call out to him, your groans of not even wanting to leave your bed, let alone face your husband after you had experienced such a loss.

You heard his footsteps enter the room. However, you refused to look at him. Luckily, you had pulled the blanket over your body after Mito left the room to give yourself that sense of security.

"Look at me," you heard his voice call.

Inwardly sighing and rolling your eyes, you slowly rolled over to face him, groaning at the pain that still resided where your child used to grow.

"What happened?" He asked you, and faintly, you heard the front door close. Hashirama and Mito leaving, you thought in the back of your mind.

"I..." you began, resting your arm over your eyes to avoid looking at him. Your husband. The father of your now deceased unborn child.

"I... I lost the baby." You slowly admit, turning away from him once again to sob into your pillow. No matter how hard you tried, the tears wouldn't stop. I probably look like a mess, you briefly thought to yourself as you muffled your cries. "I'm sorry... I'm so, so sorry..."

As you sobbed and let apologies flow freely from your mouth about how horrible of a wife you were. About how you wished you could be more like Mito, calm and collected, your husband stayed silent.

"God, just... just say something!" You finally lashed out, getting angrier and angrier at his silence. "God, say anything! Please!" You began to cry again, not even sure what to make of the situation anymore.

And, finally, you had had enough. "Say something or get out."

"Hm?" He finally spoke up, raising an eyebrow. Not that you could see it, but you knew he was doing it.

"I said, if you're not going to say or do anything to lighten the situation, then get out of this house." You made your sentence less vague, hearing your tone get more stern with every word. "If I can't have your sympathy, I don't want your presence. Get out."

"It's my hou-" he started.

"I. Don't. Care!" You screamed. "If I can't experience your affection for the first time in weeks after I lost our child, I don't want to see or hear from you at all."

Once you had calmed down enough to look at him, you realized he was gone.

Your eyes widened at the realization. Tobirama really just left me, you thought, the tears coming back once again. This time, however, it was for a different reason.

"Wait..." you murmured, pointlessly raising your arm out as to reach out to him. "Wait... don't leave me..."

Those were your last words before you passed out once again. But the last thing you heard before you slipped into unconsciousness was the front door opening and closing once more, just like it had when Hashirama and Mito left.
