A Walk To Remember

Chapter Five

I opened my eyes and found myself at the hospital and saw my Aunt Gee-Gee sitting on a chair sobbing.

Aunty where's mommy is she okay?
Did anything happen to her?
She turned and looked at me but didn't reply. I made my way to my Mom's Ward and found my mom laying lifeless on the hospital bed. The doctor used a cloth to cover her face and I ran to hold her but the nurses held me back.

No!!, Nooooo!!
My mom cannot be dead, mommy please...
Let me go, I want to see my Mother. Leave me alone.I shouted and screamed as tears began to drop from my eyes.
Aunty Gee-Gee came to console me. She kept on shaking me and told me to calm down.

Kasarachi, kasarachi wake up!
It's only a dream, calm down. Tems said.
I opened my eyes and my body ached all over. The dream felt real and I was sweating profusely.
They all calmed me down while Tems stroked my back gently.
A well of tears began to pour from my eyes.

How is Mommy?
I hope she's fine....God please don't anything happen to Mommy.
I prayed within myself and managed to calm down.

Just then, two men came into the room. They were smiling cheapishly.
Within myself I knew they were up to no good.
They were both dirty and had a foul body odour that made me gather saliva in my mouth.
Their Smell made me nauseous as they walked closer.
One of them grabbed zira and pinned her hands to the wall
Let me go, please let me go. Zira pleaded almost screaming.

This will be fun, the other man said while staring at me with lustful eyes.
Dirty pig! I cursed him under my breath as he walked closer.

He brought out a rope and began to tie Tems, Chizi and Munachi and stacked them together. He pulled me up from where I sat and tried to force a kiss on me but I spat on him and bit his lips in defense.
He touched his lips, wiping away the blood from his wounded lips and slapped me in return.
He didn't give up, he cupped my left breast and pressed it causing me kick his temple. I received two hot slaps at the same spot. My face was burning.

My throat was dry, I was thirsty.
He dragged me ,pushed me to the bed and pinned my hands down. I wanted to kick him and bite his ear but I couldn't handle another slap.
I needed time to recover from the previous ones I received.
While they were trying to have their way with us, Chizi ,Tems and Munachi were trying to untie themselves.
He held my waist band and was about to remove my jeans, just then Chizi hit his head with an iron and continuously hit him violently. He fell to the ground and was unconscious. I kicked him on his stomach, took a stick I saw by the he corner and hit his legs mercilessly.

Zira bit the man on his neck causing him to groan in pain as he pushed her to the ground. She beamed at Chizi for help.
Just as he was about to hit her Chizi hit his legs with the rod and he fell flat on the ground.
We hit him with the rod all over his body until he became unconscious too.
Of course he sustained injuries which he deserved.

We hurriedly left the room, closed the door locked it and left the key at the mouth of the door.
We ran past three rooms and hid by a corner when we heard footsteps.
When the coast was clear, we ran into an open room without a door.

Where's the exit door na!
Muna exclaimed while trying to catch her breath.
Tems walked to the window, and said
“ let's jump, this building is not very high...we'll land on grass”.

At first we were hesitant to jump but we later started jumping.
Tems jumped first, Chizi followed and Zira was next.

I'm scared, I can't jump. Muna said.
Munachi pls try, we don't have much time, I said with a frown.
Just then I heard footsteps and we squatted and hid at the edge of the room.
When they had gone far. We got up.
I told Muna to hold my hand.
She held on to my grip and we both landed on the grass.

The five of us ran as fast as our legs could carry us. We didn't bother to look back. We kept on running and running and running until Tems pierced her leg into an iron and fell.

Are you okay, Chizi asked.
Yes I'm fine. Let's continue.
Tems had nothing on, she lost her slippers while running.
Let's rest, I suggested.
If we keep on running your legs will become sore. I told Tems who was tending to her wound.

I'm fine let's keep on moving till we find a safe place to relax.
We continued moving but this time, we Walked and Tems was limping.
We stopped in front of a tree and sat down.
I cut out a piece of cloth from my shirt and wrapped it around Tems foot.

Everyone lay down on the ground and began to rest while I sat down beside Tems.

You can't sleep right?. She asked.
Yes, I'm not comfortable here. I replied
What if they come looking for us tomorrow..... she said with a worried look.

I pray they don't find us ever again.

We'll have to move early.
I said while resting my head on the tree.

I took her wrist watch and texted my Aunt.
I wasn't so sure about her number because I hadn't memorized the numbers.

“ Aunty, it's me kassy.
I hope mom is fine, I'm sorry I couldn't  call or text you earlier. I was abducted but managed to escape....it's a long story.
I can't seem to figure out where I am, but if I do I won't hesitate to call you.
I hope Mom is fine and isn't worrying too much. I'm sorry... goodnight”

Soon we dozed off and slept.
