Vivian took the pillow out from the crack of her door and opened the door silently. She heard her dad yelling and swearing at the television.
Probably watching sports. Vivian thought as she walked silently past him and into the kitchen where Claire could be seen doing yoga outside.
Vivian opened the sliding door after grabbing a coat, hat, and putting shoes on.
"Aren't you cold?" Vivian asked Claire. Claire shook her head while doing a tree pose, "Okay. Hey, could I go to Kayleigh's house for a night or two, please?"
Claire stood on her yoga mat, pausing the instruction video she had playing on a laptop a few feet away.
"Of course hun. It'll be good for you to get out of the house. I know it's not the most fun around Bruce for you, yeah?" Claire asked. Vivian looked at her feet and nodded.
"Alright. Go pack a bag and I'll drive you there! I'll be waiting in the car." Claire closed the laptop and rolled up her yoga mat and then followed Vivian inside.
"Hey Bruce?" Claire yelled loud enough so he could hear from inside the living room.
"What?" Bruce yelled back, sounding annoyed that he had to pause whatever he was watching to hear.
"Me and Vivian are going to drive out on a little camping trip! She's meeting somebody, a friend, there and then I'll come back later today." Claire yelled.
"Yeah, whatever." Was Bruce's reply, then he turned his game on again and his attention was on the television.
"Alright! Go pack your bags." Claire smiled at Vivian as she said this.
"Are you sure you should lie to him like that?" Vivian asked, nervously looking around.
"Oh, it's fine. A little lie is nothing!" Claire gave Vivian a cheeky smile and Vivian have a small grin in return before walking to her room and packing clothing for her stay.
Once Vivian finished packing her duffel bag she walked out of her room, shut and locked the door to her room, and walked to the car.
Crap did I forget the lollipop that opens my door? Vivian asked herself right after she'd put her duffel bag on the floor of their car. She plunged her hand into her coat pocket.
Extra change, phone, gum. Then she fingered the lollipop and let out a sigh of relief. She hoisted herself into the car and buckled in.
"When should I pick you up?" Claire asked as she started backing the car out of the driveway.
"You don't have to, if it's too much of a hassle. I can walk! It'll be healthy." Vivian didn't want to bother Claire and have Claire turn out like her mother.
"You're right, it will be healthy. Are you sure though? It wouldn't bother me to. Are you sure it's safe enough for you to be walking home alone?" Claire asked once she had the car driving the route to Kayleigh's house.
"Yeah I'm sure. I'll be absolutely fine. Thanks for the offer though, Claire." Vivian reassured. Claire nodded.
It only took fifteen minutes to get to Kayleigh's house and once the two got there, Vivian took her bag out of the car and walked to the front door to ring the doorbell.
"Bye Vivi! See you soon." Claire yelled after she had rolled the window of the car down. Vivian gave a small wave and just as she was about to ring the doorbell, Kayleigh was at the door and opened it wide.
"Did your dad seriously drive you here? I cannot believe that." Said Kayleigh, when she saw the car backing out of the driveway.
"You really believe that? No way in hell would my father drive me here." Vivian replied. Kayleigh nodded.
"Let's go to my room! I wanna hear more about what's going on with the people in your brain and stuff." Kayleigh exclaimed as she ushered Vivian inside. "Mooom! Can you make us some popcorn please?"
They heard Kayleigh's mother sigh and then yell, "Yeah just give me a minute."
"Yes!" Kayleigh exclaimed. Kayleigh was in love with popcorn. The only time she was allowed to have it was when a friend was over and they both shared it. So she was very excited about this.
Kayleigh led Vivian to her room and instructed her to set her duffel on the floor by the bed. Vivian's phone vibrated in her pocket.
It was her Miss Melanie and she had sent links to websites with information on DID. Vivian smiled.
"Kayleigh, we have some research to do about my disorder." Kayleigh nodded enthusiastically.
"I wanna learn more about Dissociative Identity Disorder so I can understand it and help you more." Kayleigh said.
"That's really nice of you, Kay! After we get the popcorn let's get moving," Vivian smiled. "I'll take two of the websites and you take the other two. Sound good?" Kayleigh nodded once again.
"Here's your popcorn girls. Enjoy! I'll be in the basement if you need anything." Kayleigh's mom set two bowls of popcorn on Kayleigh's desk and then closed the door gently.
"Alright let's get researching." Vivian said after texting Kayleigh two links out of the four links her therapist sent her. These two were about alter roles and species.
"Thanks for giving me the interesting ones!" Kayleigh smiled, taking her laptop out and then sitting in a bean bag chair.
Vivian sat on another chair in Kayleigh's room and clicked on a link that had a bunch of information about DID on it.
"Woah this is really cool Viv! Viv are you okay?" Kayleigh looked up while saying this and saw Vivian with her elbows on her knees and a stressed look on her face.
"Y-yeah...I think. My head just really hurts..." Vivian replied, still in that position.
Vivian closed her eyes and stayed in that position for 3 more minutes and then looked up and blinked a few times.
"Uhm...hello?" Vivian, or the new alter, said. Their voice was a bit deeper than Vivian's.
"Hi! I'm Kayleigh, Vivian's friend. What's your name?" Asked Kayleigh, recognizing that this wasn't Kayleigh and instead a different alter.
"My name is Jayden...where am I?" Jayden asked, looking around the room, confused.
"Hi Jayden! You're in my room at my house. Your house is only 15 minutes away from here. It's nice to meet you!" Kayleigh explained.
Jayden nodded slowly, "Okay. I think I got it now...thanks Kayleigh." Jayden replied.
"Oh, and me and Vivian were researching about DID, the thing you guys have. Want some popcorn?" Kayleigh was being herself as always.
"S-sure. Thanks again." Jayden said as he picked up a handful of popcorn and started to nibble on the pieces.
