Yaz's POV - Chapter 4

We all walked back to the containers/storage units in silence. Honestly, I didn't know what to believe. I mean think about it for yourselves. Why would someone kidnap Kenji, we have nothing. We're all alone living in storage containers with no money, there's no possible way Kenji has something a crazy scientist needs. Plus, I could've sworn we were the only ones left here, how could we miss a whole adult? This situation was getting weird and I longed to be back home with my family. And my journal, geez I realized I left it back at the cabins. It was getting cold and dark again and we had almost made it back. I was walking beside Sammy, we made up, I realized it's better to stick together and fight. And yeah, maybe I kind've do care for her, but whatever. In front of us, was Brooklyn and Darius. Brooklyn had her head down and was kicking sticks along the way.

"It went from 6 of u to 4, Yaz, this is scary," Sammy mumbles.

"I know it is, we aren't safe anymore, I don't think I'll be able to fall asleep," I replied.

We took a turn and made it back to our containers.

"I'm gonna go by the dock for a little guys, uh stay safe," Darius announced quietly.

"Oh....um....I'll come to Darius," Brooklyn said following his steps.

Sammy and I walked into the container where we slept, and sat down next to each other. She was rubbing her arms and staring at the blankets. I honestly didn't know what to talk about, things were still a little awkward between us after she lied, and I lashed out. She's probably homesick I thought, I mean we all are. To think, this trip was going to end up as a cute little vlog for Brooklyn's channel. Well, guess what Ben is dead, and Kenji is- well I'll keep my hopes up and just say she's missing. The sun was fully starting to set, and I could see Sammy's eyes fluttering. She was forcing herself to stay awake, I smiled a little while looking at her.

"Sammy, you can sleep, I'll keep watch I promise," I assured her.

"No, no, let's talk about Kenj and see if we can figure anything out," she said shaking her head.

I nodded. "Well, the note was obviously some scientist but who?" I asked.

"Well, omg, do you remember that one who got upset with Brooklyn for being inside his office," Sammy blurted out.

I stared at her, "Well yeah, but what would he want, if anything he would have taken Brooklyn...not Kenji," I pointed out.

"What if he thought Brooklyn took pictures or videos of info on his computer, or if he knew my you know plan I had to help my family, he took Kenji as bait for us to give him Brooklyn's phone," Sammy declared.
"That makes sense but one, she didn't take any info, two her phone is broken," I sighed.

"We wouldn't be able to get Kenji back," I continued.

" We would if we were able to sneak in at dark, and steal Kenji back, it might take awhile to find the building but...." Sammy said while smirking.

I giggled, "We have to tell Darius and Kenji."

Right as I said that they came rushing in, "We know wo stole kenji!" they yelled.

"So do we!" Me and Sammy shouted.

"If you mean the one who was a total jerk to me after I snuck into his office without permission, then we're on the same page," Brooklyn said.

We all smiled and looked at eachother.

It's go time.
