Back then things were different. My mother was still here with us and my father only drank on the weekends with his friends. We were so much more happier back then, life was so much better. I wish I could go back to that time, but it just feels like a dream instead of a memory now.

That day, Hitoshi and I were the closest we had ever been. I was a seventh grader in secondary education (middle school) and he was a ninth grader. Hitoshi was someone, girls fawned over especially the girls of the lower classes. He wasn't necessarily popular, more of a small shy boy but it seemed to peak the interest of many girls.

For this reason, he was bullied a lot by the boys of his class. Calling him girly names for the way that he looked, since he's always had a more feminine appearance.

"Leave him alone!" I yelled at the boys as they all stood in a circle surrounding Hitoshi. I walked over to them, grabbing Hitoshi's hand pulling him off the ground. I had stopped to get a sip of water before heading back to my physical education class as I spotted them saying those terrible things to Hitoshi. I couldn't stand to hear it, my mother always told me to do onto others as you would want them to do to you.

I would want someone to save me, to save me from the cloud of darkness that was those bullies so I saved him.

"What are you? His girlfriend?" one of the boys teased as they all erupted in laughter.

"Do you think girls will like you if you're mean!" I yelled back at them but it just rolled off of them as if it was nothing.

"Wait till they find out you guys wear panties to school" I told them in hopes to get them to back off. It was the best insult I could come up with, and it was a very odd of an insult but it worked. They all got quite as they glared at me intensely.

"Nobody will believe you" one of them scoffed but there was no reaction from the others.

"Oh but seventh graders are quite gullible" I responded back.

"Who is this chick?" another one asked as they all slowly backed away.

"Leave him alone and nobody has to know that you guys like to wear panties instead of boxers" I tried to say as confident as I could but I was honestly extremely nervous.

They all looked at each other while muttering different words before they all left in unison.

"T-Thank you" the boy I saved said trying to avoid eye contact.

I crouched down on the ground trying to catch my breath, as my anxiousness caught up with me. That was a very scary situation, if the boys hadn't back down i was afraid of what they might of done to me. I had never been so brave in my life but I felt sad by this boy. I wanted to do my best to help him be happy, as I would want someone to help me.

"Were you scared?" he asked crouching down as well. I nodded my head in response before looking up to him with a smile. His cheeks turned bright red as he stood up extending a hand out to me.

"I didn't really need your help" he said trying to act tough but it was clearly an act.

"I wanted to" I said standing up to look at him closely.

"What's your name, anyways" he asked.

"A-Alice" I responded.

"I'm Hitoshi" he smiled happily.

From that day on we became friends, and soon after we became best friends. Everyday we would eat lunch together and he would wait for me in the mornings before class. Rumors spread around that we had been dating but I just ignored them.
