Sawyer

"Come on, Sawyer, we have to go," Sophie yelled from the kitchen as I finished getting ready in the bathroom.

"I'm coming... I'm coming. I just have to grab my purse," I took one last look in the mirror before I ran to my room to grab my things.

Sophie's parents got her season tickets for the Las Vegas Rebels baseball season this year for her birthday. Today is the first game of the season, and I get to be the "lucky" one dragged along to this wonderful event. I am not a big baseball fan or sports fan in general. I've been able to get out of going to games with her due to work before, but I didn't have any excuse this time. So, I'm sucking it up just for her.

"Okay, let's go, babes. We need to get there the second the gates open just in case any of the guys are signing autographs," She spoke eagerly while practically pulling me out the front door.

I watched her lock-up before we rushed to her car and hopped in.

"I can't believe you roped me into this. I'm not going to know anything about what's going on," I said, looking out the window.

Sophie raised her brow at me. Her long brown hair whipped around crazily as she rolled her window down. "It's not that hard to understand. Besides, we have been living together for a couple of years, and I feel like I have gone over how baseball works multiple times with you."

"Yeah, but I wasn't paying attention to anything you were saying," A guilty smile spreads across my face.

"Sawyer! You little turd," We both started to laugh as she goes to swat my arm with her hand while the other was still on the steering wheel. "Well, you're just going to have to figure it out all by yourself because I'm not explaining it for the hundredth time."

I rolled my eyes. "Aw, come on. I didn't have a reason to learn how it all works until now. Thanks so much to your parents for getting you these tickets. Which reminds me, I need to talk to them about that decision."

She stuck her tongue out at me as I shook my head, laughing. "Anyways, how many more signatures from the team do you need before you have them all?"

Sophie has gone to so many games growing up that she has a baseball scrapbook with autographs from most of the Rebel's players over the years and those on the team now.

"I think I have just six left to go. Zeller, Ekker, Armas, Freed, Kestrel, and...Wolf," She sighed as we stopped at a red light.

"Why did you stop before you said that guy's last name?" I looked at her curiously.

"Because very few people have been able to get his autograph for anything. I'm talking like maybe a handful. He hasn't ever really gone out of his way to talk to the fans much before games or even sign things in general. I might not ever get to complete my book because of Hayden freaking Wolf."

Just his name alone makes him sound like a heap of trouble...Hayden Wolf. Yeah, trouble and more than likely hot as hell too.

"Hm, that's weird. Maybe he just likes to keep his head in the game and not get too chatty. Hey, you just might be one of the lucky ones that get an autograph this year, though. You got this!"

She nods excitedly. "Yes! Optimism, I like it."

Once we get to the stadium, we pay for parking and then head for one of the crowded entrances.

I start to slow down. "Holy shit, this place is huge. There are so many people...too many people if you ask me. Maybe I could just−"

"Nope, you aren't going back to the car. Don't you even dare think about it. You keep yourself too cooped up in our apartment. Even more so since you and that asshole broke up...and that was over a year ago. Live a little babes."
