Candles floated high above their heads, loud voices chattering with one another. Discussions of the past summer and up-coming school year being shared by passing students. First years dispersed to their designated tables, and older students spread out in clusters of conversations with old friends and new friends alike. Hufflepuff's danced in the middle of the grand hall, Ravenclaw's showed off their new school supplies. No one, save for a single boy, sat alone. Even Yoongi, silent, rather gloomy, a snappy Slytherin, sat surrounded by his friends."Who," his eldest friend's voice sounded to his left. The Gryffindor's robes falling to the crooks of his elbows as he picked apart a large chunk of roast. "Is that?", he nods to a small, hunched over figure that sat at the table behind Taehyung, the fifth year directly across from Yoongi. Jin's question breaks Tae from his one sided conversation with a seemingly uninterested Jungkook.
His head snapped around, making Hoseok and Namjoon look over in interest as well, their conversation fading into the loud aura of the cafeteria. Yoongi grunted,- he wasn't sure. As headboy, he knew plenty more people than he would have liked to. First and seventh years alike were his responsibilities, each head of unkempt hair was his child to babysit. Yet he'd never seen this boy in his life. Small, covered in soft yellows accenting stark blacks. A yellow beanie covering his head and breaking school uniform code. Back turned from them, the strange Hufflepuff looked small enough to be a first year, earbuds stuck in his ears, a book thrown haphazardly to his side. Yoongi was sure he hadn't seen the boy during the sorting ceremony.
"I've seen him around before," the other Hufflepuff, Hoseok, nodded, turning back around and grabbing a roll from the table. "He doesn't talk much,- he always listens to music, tunes everyone out. Funnily enough, not even the professors try and stop him."
Jungkook scoffs, crossing his arms and leaning against the table. "Because," He says, ",-it's better he doesn't hear the other students! I heard his mom got her wand revoked after using the Crucio curse on him when he was a kid."
"Please," Jin scoffed back at the young boy. "She would be in Azkaban,- not just getting her wand revoked."
Namjoon reached passed Yoongi, flicking his want to scoop out a spoonful of mashed potatoes, lowering them to his plate. "Surely you know better than to believe rumors by now, right?" He raised a brow at the younger. Yoongi scoffed, earning a glare from him. Jungkook knew nothing more than how to be a brat.
"Why is he alone?" Tae asked, ignoring them, face wrinkled in concern. Ever the optimist.
"He always is," Hoseok shrugged, his bread pulled apart into pieces all over his plate. "He never eats in the dining hall,... he keeps his head down in lectures,... he doesn't do much of anything, really,- but he seems content with that."
"Well, surely he wants some friends!" And the groups Animagus was already standing up, but Hoseok reaches up and grabs Tae's sleeve, stopping him.
Grunting, Yoongi finally interjects. "If he's alone, surely he wants to remain alone.", his eyes flickern back over to the small boy.
"Not everyone is as anti-friendship as you are, hyung." Tae pulled his hand out of Hoseok's grip, and reached down to snatch Jungkook's palm into his, "Kookie and I are going to ask him if he wants to eat dinner!"
"We're going on a trip?" Jungkook looked up at the boy with wide doe eyes. Yoongi almost forgot just how whipped the boy was for the elder, so much so that his demeanour would entirely change for him. "Where are we going?" Even though he was asking questions, he allowed himself to be pulled along by the other.
Tae nodded in response, a sharp movement as he tugs Jungkook over to the hufflepuff. The upbeat boy tapped the shoulder of the rather small one, and he looked up. A conversation too far away to hear began to take place.
