When Aliea woke up the next day something seemed off, her first thoughts were shifting like she wasn't in the right place. She got up out of bed and looked at the poster on her wall, she then looked back at the door, and she got up upon shuffling her feet after throwing on an oversized garment and a pair of shorts. Before leaving her assigned room, she put on her sturdy black boots, glancing at the poster one last time as she walked out the door. She walked faster than she would have normally down the corridor and to the left where her workplace was no surprise, Jacque.
"Hey, Alieaaaaa."
"Hello, Jacque." She said firmly.
"Relax I just wanted to tell you about that plan the earthlings had." Jacque was always one to joke around so Aliea usually ignored him, but she felt in her gut she needed to listen to him for once.
"What is it, Jacque? Also, it's higher-ups not "earthlings"."
"Yeah, yeah whatever you say. Anyway, the thing that they were planning is going to get initiated tomorrow. So some people will be gone for a bit and that leaves us to cover for them." He posed like a superhero, more like a super dork, and took a deep breath in.
"Ya know I might be going."
"Really? Guess I won't be going."
"Why is that?"
"We're basically polar opposites."
"What if it's a teamwork thing?" His eyes lit up. Aliea scoffed. She felt like she should leave the castle for some reason but it was probably just paranoia.
"Catch ya later Aliea!" Jacque said running off to his station leaving Aliea to do paperwork and keep track of the people in the castle.
As she took a look at the assortment of papers the memory of the suspicious document came back to her. "These participants will be chosen by yours truly, the higher-ups."
Aliea wasn't afraid to admit she was a bit tense but surely she'd be fine it was more Jacque she was worried about. She just wanted to know what may cause these participants to get chosen, was it their athletic ability, where they were from, how smart they were, or maybe a category of work? Either way, she would stay on high alert for the next 24 hours, or at least she tried to.
As she sat down to do her paperwork for the next couple of hours, it was now time to go to lunch. And by that lunch, she means to take a quick break by munching on an apple while listening to music and blocking out Jacque's voice. She waited 15 minutes for him but he never came, he was probably out doing stupid stuff and got hurt or caught again she thought. It wasn't till later that night on her way back to her room she thought something was off she hadn't heard from Jacque all day if he got chosen for that death chamber he was for sure going to die he was too stupid! Just breathe she thought. Deep breaths, 1, 2, 3, 4-. That was when she felt a shiver go down her spine and she rushed to her room as fast as she was allowed to. She closed and locked the door behind her breathing heavily. She took a look at her poster again and it was gone. Someone must have been in here was it Jacque? No, he's not that indecent he would've told me or come back with me after I finished looking at those documents. The doorknob seemed still and safe so she left it alone and tried to sleep. It was impossible and, that was when she heard the door creak. Before she could go into panic mode or react at all, she was knocked out. No trace was left behind as she cursed herself for not leaving the palace sooner.
