Sam turned around, smiling toward the car. Baby.
Dean noticed and smiled, letting out a chuckle. Sam remembered near the end of his earthly life he'd sat in the car, which was parked in the garage of his home. He'd just sat there, placing his hands gently on the steering wheel, feeling a wave of emotion and memory wash over him. He'd remembered the classic rock Dean would blast on the radio of the 1967 Chevrolet Impala. He'd looked at the etchings they'd made, their initials.SW
DWThe memories had helped him keep living. He wanted to honor Dean by living his life to the fullest and living in a way that they hadn't been able to while Chuck was around. Once Jack became God, he'd changed everything for Sam. He'd made it possible for Sam to live to an old age and have a son, to be normal for once. It was nice.
"She's still a beauty after all these years huh Sammy?"
He said with a smile on his face, turning to Sam. Sam nodded, laughing. The black exterior of the car shimmered in the light.
"Yeah, she sure is Dean."
He was glad that his brother had his beloved car with him up in heaven, he was glad that Dean was happy here while he was away.
Dean took a deep breath, smiling at Sam. He motioned toward the car and grabbed the door handle, opening the door with a gentle pull. Sam smiled, making his way to the passenger door, opening it, hopping in. Carry On Wayward Son played on the radio, the purr of the cars engine providing some white noise behind it.
Dean quickly moved the shifter, putting Baby in drive. He let out a happy laugh, his green eyes sparkling in the sunlight. Sam let out a chuckle, glancing at his brother kindly.
Carry on my wayward son... there'll be peace when you are done...
He'd missed this. Two brothers on the road.
He rubbed his hand on the dash, a sense of peace washing over him. The vibration of the engine felt relaxing in his hand, a feeling he'd missed while he and Dean were apart.
He closed his eyes, feeling the air conditioning blow through his hair. It felt great being younger again. It felt even better being reunited with Dean. It was amazing.
****************
They drove, eventually reaching a clearing full of flowers. Dean slowed the car down, bringing her to a stop with ease. He switched the shifter to park and looked to Sam. Dean smiled at Sam and just sat in peace. They looked at each other, smiling. Remembering the years of memories together in this car. Fighting monster after monster, unknowing of what would happen next. They remembered how tough it was, but how each trial made their bond as brothers stronger and stronger. Nothing could've stopped them.
"I'm so glad we're together again Sammy..."
Sam smiled, nodding. He was glad to be back with his brother. His big brother whom he'd never stopped thinking about.
"Me too, Dean."
Dean opened his door, stepping out, his brown hair shimmering in the sunlight. Sam got out, leaning against the car. It's black exterior glittered in the light. A beauty of a car. Truly gorgeous.
They both went to the hood and leaned against it, watching the flowers blow in the gentle breeze. This was the most peaceful place they had ever been. Fair enough, it being heaven of all places.
A crunch happened in the forest to the left of them and they both flinched, turning toward the sound. Out of the trees and brush, came a familiar silhouette. It was Jack. He smiled, walking up to the boys. He looked glad and proud to see them together again in his heaven.
"Hey Sam, Hey Dean."
The smile on his face was kind and peaceful, ever since he'd become god his life had changed. He didn't feel afraid any more, or scared that he'd hurt anybody. He knew his purpose and was proud of what he'd accomplished with heaven. He wanted to do it for them. The men who'd raised him and showed him how to be good.
They smiled, happy to see Jack again.
"Hi Jack!"
The boys said in unison, glad to see him. They'd thought when he said goodbye that that would be it. That they'd never see him again. But Bobby had told Dean when he'd arrived, that Jack had changed heaven, making it a peaceful place for all, not a prison. The prison Dean had remembered it being.
Jack smiled walking up to them, wrapping his arms around them. He laughed happily, beaming with joy.
"I missed you guys."
Jack was glad to see them again.
"We missed you too Jack." Sam said, Dean nodding with him in agreement. They both really had missed him.
Dean remembered what Bobby had told him about Cas helping Jack, and took a deep breath.
"Hey Jack, where's Cas?"
Dean asked, hoping for the answer he'd hoped for since he'd gotten here. He'd hoped Cas was here. Here in heaven. Not in the empty... that horrible place... he couldn't bear to hear about that place again....
Cas' words repeated in his mind every time he thought of him. Like an endless echo, reverberating through his mind.
"I love you.."
Those words cut into Dean's heart when he thought of how Cas died in front of him, consumed by the empty. Dean loved him too.
Jack smiled. He knew Dean would be glad to hear his reply. As he sensed the connection between Dean and Cas. It was more than a friendship. It was love.
"He's here Dean. Here in heaven."
