Chapter 33
Ally stood there, her body tense and ready for a fight she knew was inevitable. Around her, people were already beginning to shift into their forms, and she shook her head at the picture they made. Snow leopards surrounded the small house, but it wasn’t the snow leopards that made her marvel at the sight. It was the brown wolf standing with them, the yellow leopard, and the lion. All standing to fight for her, to fight for something she wasn’t even sure they understood.
She glanced towards Sebastian, watching as he sent her a small smile before letting his shift take over also. She’d be the only one out of her animal form, and to be honest, she would hate it. It left her vulnerable, but it also meant she was the only one who could talk to the wolves that were getting closer every second. Taking a deep breath, she began counting. There were six in all, not enough to start a war with, but it was enough for a battle, a battle Ally didn’t plan on loosing.
Something bumped into her legs, and a large smile instantly fell onto her face. She ran her hand through Seb’s fur, letting him comfort her. She couldn’t show anyone how nervous she was, how afraid she was, because as soon as they detected that weakness, they’d pounce on it. Was she afraid for her own life? No, but her children were nearby. They were inside that small house that she had thought was safe until now. It was a stupid thing to believe, that they would be safe anywhere, and for that reason alone, Ally wanted this to be done with. She was tired of all the pointless fighting, tired of the prejudices that kept them from getting along.
Wolves bounded from the trees, making her grip on Seb tighten slightly before she relaxed it. She couldn’t show how nervous this made her. With a smile, she took a step forward, Seb right beside her, and was satisfied when the wolves instantly froze. They were afraid, of her or the large group of shifters behind her, she didn’t know.
Behind the wolves, a couple stepped out. Luna with her dark hair falling to her waist was someone that Ally was used to seeing, but the man who stepped out with her was another story. His hair was brown, eyes matching, but the way he carried himself said he had power. Too bad for him that he didn’t actually hold the power he pretended to have. Ally could feel it radiating off several people, none of which was the man standing next to Luna.
“Took you longer than I thought to get here,” Ally said with a shrug while Luna’s chin tilted further into the air.
“We thought we’d give you enough time to prepare, seeing as—”
“Quiet,” the man interrupted, making Luna glare towards him. He ignored her as he took a step closer to Ally. When his wolves made to move with him, he growled. They paused, and Ally could feel a small amount of surprise flying through her body. The last thing she had expected was this man to try to come closer on his own.
Running her hand through Sebastian’s fur once more, Ally took a step closer to the man also. If he was willing to meet halfway, she wouldn’t bruise his pride by being stubborn. Her children were behind her, and anything that she could do to keep them safe, she would. “No closer,” she whispered.
He nodded his head respectively. “I understand why you don’t want me any closer, but I think that we’ve had a large misunderstanding.”
“I don’t want a fight,” Ally said honestly, “but if it comes to that, I will kill you all. I’ve spared your mate once; I don’t plan to do it another time.”
A laugh escaped the wolf shifters mouth, making her tilt her head sideways at him. “I can tell the two of us are going to be great friends.”
“Cy,” Luna said in a slightly annoyed tone.
