Bad day

Celine Evans was officially not having a good day.

First, she slept through her alarm and woke up six minutes late, which threw off her entire schedule. Then she discovered a pimple had appeared on her nose during the night, and after that, she spilled tea on her favourite white T-shirt, which she then needed to bleach and wash. After changing into a different shirt, she had driven halfway to school when she realized she'd left her science binder at home, and had had to drive back and grab it.

Fan, freaking, 'tastic.

And it was all of this, all of this mess, that caused her to slam straight into Natasha Kim on that fateful day.

"Wha--AHH!" Nat shrieked when Celine came barrelling straight around the corner and completely bashed into her.

Let's back up a second. Why exactly was Celine barrelling down the hallway?

Well, one, she was drenched from the rain outside and wanted to get to her locker, where she had an extra (dry) hoodie to change into. Two, she was on her period and just realized she needed to change her pad, and finally, three, science class started in exactly three minutes and forty-nine seconds, and in order to get all those things done...well, she was praying.

And being busy praying, well, that was exactly why she was distracted enough to have the misfortune of plowing into Natasha Kim.

"Oh my gosh! I'm so sorry!" Celine yelped as a bag of muffins and a coffee tumbled out of Natasha's hands, landing with a plop on the ground. The muffin bag managed to miraculously survive, with the muffins somehow sticking to the inside of the bag. However, the coffee had a worse fate. It had soared through the air, immediately plummeting to the floor and spilling hot coffee everywhere.

Rest in peace, coffee.

"My breakfast!" Nat exclaimed with shock. Quickly, she picked up the bag of muffins and stared at the remains of what was once her delicious coffee, then picked the cup up as well. Then she looked back at Celine. "You're buying me a new one," she stated all matter-of-fact. She didn't sound angry, just...insistent.

"Sure, of course, I'm so sorry," Celine apologized frantically, mortified that she'd just ruined this girl's breakfast. Her cheeks were beet-red with embarrassment, and her foot tapped anxiously on the floor. Suddenly, she remembered her science class. "Oh, I--I gotta go. Sorry. Bye!" She scampered off.

As she was high-tailing it to her locker, she cursed her stupid morning for making her late and causing her to crash into Natasha Kim. Natasha Kim, of all people. Of all people, it had to be Natasha Kim, the obnoxious daredevil girl who always defied the teachers and threw all the wild parties? Why Natasha Kim?

Little did she know that months later, she'd be shaking her head with wonder, so glad she had been fortunate enough to run into Natasha Kim.

Science class was torture. The entire class was spent by Celine's teacher, Mrs. Firman lecturing about the particles that make up water.

Celine had laid her head down on the table and tried not to fall asleep.

Worst of all, Celine couldn't stop thinking about poor Natasha and the shocked expression on her face when Celine had plowed into her. She felt so guilty. Yes, she was going to buy the girl a breakfast the next day, but still. Even though she didn't like Natasha all too much, it wasn't like she didn't feel sorry. So because of this, she decided to find Natasha at lunch and apologize. Again.

Finally, after four long class periods of mostly torture and some fun (the fun was Spanish class, where they worked on a project and were given candy and allowed to listen to music, one of Celine's favourite things to do), lunchtime arrived. All the students raced out the door, to their lockers and then down the hall to the lunch room. Celine was just shutting her locker door when someone appeared next to her. "Hey, Celine!" her best friend, Kimberly Smith, exclaimed.

"Oh hey Kimmy," said Celine as they began to walk to the lunch room together. "What's up?"

Kimberly was tall and lithe, built like a dancer (and she was a dancer), with fluffy dark brown hair she invariably wore in an afro and amber skin smoother than melted chocolate. Large silver hoops hung in her ears, as always, and a small zirconia heart pendant was set on her neck, hanging on a silver chain. She'd received the necklace as a gift from her boyfriend, Aaron, five months prior, and she'd never taken it off. The two had been going strong for about a year and a half now, and Celine could tell Kimberly was head over heels. Thankfully, though, Kimberly wasn't one of those girls who abandoned their best friend for a guy. She and Celine still hung out all the time, and it was awesome.

"Nothing much," Kimberly replied with a smile. "I'm literally so hungry, though."

Celine grinned. "Well, let's get to lunch, then!"
