The Girl Next Door

Beepbeep beep beep. I woke up to the blaring sound of my alarm clock and groaned. Who the hell created alarm clocks! I thought. I hit the snooze button and threw the sheets of my bed. 6:30 a.m. I still have time to shower before school. I made my way through the piles of laundry and cardboard boxes of pizza, towards my coffee maker. Once in the kitchen, I looked inside the cupboards and groaned. "Where's my coffee?" I said.  "DEREK!!!!!!"

I stormed into my roommate's room while banging pans with spoons. "WHAT THE FUCK, LUNA!"  Derek yelled as he threw a pillow at me. "YOU STOLE MY COFFEE! So I'm going to go shower and once I'm out your taking me to Starbucks. I'm not going to be late," I exclaimed. I stomped my way to the bathroom and slammed the door.

Once I had finished with my shower, Derek took me to Starbucks and from there to school. My hands were sweating as we neared my new school, Everwood High School. It was the largest school in the state of Washington. As we got into the student parking lot, Derek turned to look at me. "Are you okay?" he asked with a concerned voice.  I bit my lip and nodded. We got out of the car and walked straight into the school. Derek's fingers interewined with mine and all the tension left my body.

Everyone who passed us knew Derek well. They would greet him like if he was the king, but once Derek introduced me- they would look at me like as if I was an alien. Maybe I was. Every once in a while, I caught girls giving me dirty looks, as they whispered about me.  I was the new girl for them. A lamb sent to the slaugter house, I thought.

At the office, a lady, who were a lot of perfume, handed me my schedule and locker number. I turned around to go back to Derek, but the lady's scratchy voice stopped me. "Welcome home, Ms. Grey. We have been expecting you." A chill ran down my spine as I made my way out the door. I took a deep breath and faced my new beginning.
