I leap from the windowsill, the soles of my boots making a high-pitched squeal from the rain, echoing in the dark, gloomy alley. My gloved hands grip the edge of the balcony and I pull myself up, the impact of my feet hitting the rusted metal made a hollow, clanging sound, mixing with the light drumming of the rain. I'm soaked from head to toe, but I don't mind.
I pull the key from my jacket pocket and open the door. "You're late. Again."
I roll my eyes at him, and sit down in my sector of the room. "So what?" I ask him. "It's not like you listen to anything I have to say anyways. All you do is talk amongst yourselves while I sit in the corner like a little kid on time out!" I say angrily. The other Elements wait for us to tire out. They're used to it by now.
"Please," Blake, head of Air, scoffs at me, light grey eyes flashing. "You don't even remember what it's like to have a childhood. Your parents threw you into the streets by the time you could walk!"
I stand up, my hands clenched into fists. "At least when I was rescued by the Guild, they were good, honest people, who wouldn't isolate someone because of an irregular set of powers!"
"At least-"
"Enough!" shouts Ella, leader of the Earth Elements, her light green eyes angry. I was surprised. She hardly ever raises her voice. "I've had enough of you two arguing! Every single day, you go at it, trying to outdo each other. Well I'm through with it! Suck it up and try to be in one room without blowing up the plumbing-" she shouts at us, her short, earth-brown hair flying, and giving me a pointed glare at the last part. She has a slight accent that neither of her parents had, which was strange, but by now I was used to it.
I shrug. "Guilty."
"Or shattering the air vents." she continues, turning her glare on Blake this time, who nervously ran a hand through his white-blonde hair. "Or I'm cutting you both out of the meetings!"
I stand up, making eye contact with all of them. "Fine by me." I say, opening the door. As an afterthought, I flicked my finger, and smiled smugly to myself as they cried out in disgust as the sewer water floods them.
"Arika!"
"Hey!" I shout over my shoulder, halfway out the door. My hand is already on a rung of the ladder. "At least it was clean!"
