"Make a wish!" They all called out.
Cheering and clapping their hands together with excitement.
I remember squeezing my eyes shut, and inhaling air and the smell of smoke.
Then I decompressed my lungs as I blew out all the air I had just taken in, to extinguish the flames of the previously lit candles.
Before my eyes fluttered open, loud cheers and whoops, filled the heavy air and the smell of fire crept into my nose.
I open my eyes to see big smiles, video cams, and trickles of grey and white smoke rising from the wicks of the small decorative candles.
"Tells us what you wished for!!" the crowd urged with anticipation.
"Oh, please don't!!" a small voice shrieked "If she says, her wish won't come true!!"
I smiled in the voices direction "I suppose you're right, I'll keep this wish to myself." I spoke to the general area the voice was coming from, but no one in particular.
"Boos" and "Awhhs"filled the room.
I just chuckled, until another voice proposed loudly, " Who wants a piece of cake?!!"
And the cheers resumed.
