~Draco"I thought you were bringing the car," I said.
On the inside I was reeling.
Father had a little container of floo at the ready when I got off the train.
"I'm not stupid Draco," he said coldly.
I shut up.
He gripped my arm tightly and steered me into the fireplace.
"Malfoy Manor!" He exclaimed.
I stumbled forward from the force of the floo. It was important to brace yourself when traveling by the network but my nerves were so jumbled that I had neglected all my prior knowledge.
"Ah Draco, my son," my mother greeted me with a warm smile and open arms.
I breathed in her floral scent, a way to anchor myself.
How would Harry, Hermione and Blaise find me now?
Why didn't I remember my father always switched up his plans?
This was turning into a suicide mission.
"Narcissa, fix me a cup of tea," Lucius ordered and then added a meager, "please,"
It sounded so strained I almost laughed. Mother must have told him to behave for the holidays.
As if.
His obedience to her would not last long.
I stumbled up the stairs to deposit my suitcase. My room looked the same as it had when I left; neat and tidy.
I had always been neat and tidy. It was "proper", after all.
But all this risk and all the high stakes made me want to rebel against everything I'd ever known. Like a true teenager.
Harry was the opposite, he never cared about being organized and there was something about that that was admirable.
Not once conforming to the system.
The same system that produced and destroyed any shred of human decency in my father.
So yeah, fuck the system.
And fuck any sense of planning.
I peeked out the window and stared hard at the horizon.
I was hoping to see my friends flying towards the Manor on the brooms that Harry had stowed away.
"What are you looking at?" Mother asked, startling me.
"Outside," I murmured.
She sat a tray with a cup down on my table and carefully sat on the edge of my bed.
I turned to her. She had a shadow of a healing bruise on her jaw.
"Did father do anything else...?" I questioned in a hushed tone.
"Draco, you really mustn't worry about me, I'm more so worried about you," she said.
"Why are you worried about me?" I crinkled my nose.
"Lucius he's... he's planning something," she said.
"Do you know what?"
"No but it's something big," she sighed.
My mother's eyes wandered to the window, looking wistfully outside.
Then she gasped.
Just above the trees, people on brooms were hurtling towards the ground.
