The first person to say 'I love you' was actually Kyoko. She was helping Makoto with some paper work when he was stressed. Like they had done before, she took off her gloves to hold his hand and comfort him. Makoto smiled at her and asked her why she only did that with him. Kyoko wasn't really focusing when he asked this, so without thinking she said "because I love you." Makoto turned bright red and couldn't speak for a while. Eventually he was able to speak again and asked her if she was serious. Kyoko said that she was, and Makoto said he loved her too. Makoto looks back on it as one of his happiest memories.
