If you are extremely angry and want to calm down, here are some tips to do that.
1) Divert your attention
You can divert your attention by many ways. You can watch a movie, listen to songs, cuddle with your pet or take a walk. By taking your mind off the problem, you'll feel calmer.
2) Take deep breaths
Deep breathing can help immensely because when we are angry, our brain gives signals to our body that it is in crisis but by breathing deeply and focusing on breathing, the brain feels safe and thus your anger will slowly fade away.
3) Count from 1 to 10
4) Relax your muscles
When you relax your muscles, your body and mind relax simultaneously too. This helps you calm down.
5) Write a letter
Even though this seems quite weird, it actually helps. Write a letter and mention exactly why you are feeling angry. Then re-read the letter and try finding solutions to that problem.
6) Journal
Journal your feelings and pour your entire heart into it. Trust me, it helps.
7) Do creative things
Emotions are powerful and you can divert them towards good things. If you are angry then write a poem, paint a picture, do gardening or cook/bake something. Use your emotions to channel your creativity towards something good.
8) Read a humorous book or watch a funny movie
A funny book/movie will make you laugh which in turn will reduce your anger. After all, a good laugh can do wonders and who doesn't like laughing?
9) Take a break
Try sitting alone for sometime and try processing your emotions. You'll feel calmer.
10) Repeat a mantra
It could be anything from "I'll be ok" to "I am brave, strong and beautiful and I can get through this." to "Relax and take it easy". Find what helps you the most and keep repeating it when you are angry.
11) Think of happy memories
Remember the last time you went for an amazing vacation, or the last time you ate that delicious ice-cream or the last time you hugged your favourite person or laughed heartily? Keep reminiscing about such moments and that should do the trick.
12) Play some music
There's nothing music can't do. It can comfort you, calm you down, eradicate your anger and what not.
This isn't a tip to control your anger but if you are angry, it's better for you to stay away from the thing that angered you. Suppose it was the mess in your room which your sibling or dog created. You can leave the room and shut the door and try to forget about it. Or if it was something someone said, it's best to leave that person before saying anything hurtful that you might regret in the future. Drinking water is also helpful to some extent.
