“You have changed so much. You look exactly like your mother” he whispered in disbelief that I was actually standing in front of him.
“Uhmm thank-you” I said quietly not meeting his eye
“Come inside” he said stepping back and ushering Penny and I into the house. We went inside the house and followed him to the dining room where we found Jessica and Daniel sitting there.
My heart literally stopped.
Even though I had been seeing Jessica and Daniel at school almost every day it wasn’t the same in a private setting. I quickly gathered my thoughts then sat down next to Penny across from Daniel who was next to Jessica. My father took a seat and the head of the table. Things quickly became awkward, uncomfortable and just plain silent. Nobody knew what to say to each other.
“Uhmm, so Aria, how have you been all these years” My father asked me silently. It was almost like he was in a daze.
“I’ve been fine thank-you” I replied formally not wanting to let my guard down in front of the people who basically disowned me.
“Well I wanted to see you today to basically see how you have been doing. Your siblings have been missing you very much” he said
“I would beg to differ” I said
“Why is that?” he asked
“Oh stop the crap Micheal. We both know very well that there are more important things that you want to speak about rather then your own children” Penny interrupted dramatically
“Typical Penny, only caring about Aria. You seem to forget that we’re your grandkids to” Daniel said getting angry
“Daniel, you are my grandchild and I love you and Jessica both very much however it isn’t about me favoring Aria. It’s about me taking care of a child who was thrown out of her own household because of reasons that were out of her control. How would you feel if you were only 10 years old and you were told to leave because of your mother’s stupid mistakes”
“DON’T SPEAK ABOUT MY MOTHER LIKE THAT” shouted Jessica
“Jessica dear, I will speak about MY child whichever way I please so calm your horses. You not intimidating anyone by raising your voice, love” Penny said
“Can everyone just stop talking and let me talk for once!” shouted my father. Immediately everyone fell silent and waited for him to talk
“Aria, I was wrong telling you to leave this house when you were 10, but you have to understand that I was at a point in my life where I finally thought my marriage was getting back on track and then I found out that my wife who I loved dearly had an affair, was leaving me for another man and my youngest child really actually wasn’t mine. I acted out of emotion, not logic and I want to try forget the past and just move on from this” he said
“I don’t think that’s something I will get over quickly Micheal. I really did love you like my father, heck I thought you WERE my father. But sorry just doesn’t cut it right now I mean, what about all the times I tried phoning you to try talk this out but you just ignored my calls as if you were trying to forget my existence.” I said with a tear falling down my face
“Aria believe it or not, you still have a special place in our hearts. You were my little princess and you still are even after all of this. You and Jessica used to be so close remember, she was like your twin growing up, wherever Jessica was I would always find your cute little but right behind her. And don’t forget about you and Daniel. Never in my life had I ever seen a brother love his sister as much as he loves you. You and Daniel were almost the bestest of friends in fact all three of you were. Are you telling me that all those memories have been lost and forgotten.” He said wipping a tear from his eye.
