Finally, after an exceedingly long journey which consisted of singing, laughing, crying, and back to singing, the trio arrived at the beach house, noticing that the others were already there. The late afternoon shone its fading sun upon the still water. The image of the cloudless sky and the setting sun was printed into its reflection, leaving the boys in awe.
In the distance stood a beautiful beach house that gave off an old vibe yet had hints of modernised architecture.
"It's beautiful," Renjun whispered, eyes glistening in wonder as he watched the seabirds fly overhead while the distinct aroma of the salty sea and fried chips penetrated his nose, as if to welcome him to the slice of heaven that he stepped into.
"It's the pride and joy of my family," Chenle added, patting the other Chinese boy's shoulder before pushing ahead and leading the boys to the house.
Donghyuck turned to his boyfriend with a pout while he outstretched his hand.
Mark giggled at the younger's childish antics. Grabbing ahold of his hand, Mark pulled him in close, planting a short and sweet kiss upon the shorter's nose before pulling him along to join the rest who were already mere silhouettes in the distance.
"This is going going to be the best summer of our lives," Mark whispered, his heart pounding wildly in his chest as the thought of being with his friends and boyfriend for the summer.
If only the couple had known the devastation that would entail...
Night had settled over the beach. No birds could be heard, only the water lapping against the shore in a calming manner.
Donghyuck found he couldn't sleep, so instead of looking lifelessly at the ceiling whilst hoping for the peaceful state to overwhelm him, he decided to wander out to the beach where he sat in the cool sand and dipped his toes in the water.
The teen hummed a gentle tune, but the light breezed carried it away as if no sound had been made at all.
It was all tranquil for Donghyuck who looked to the moon that shed its alluring glow upon earth.
He noticed the shadows shifting which snapped his attention away. His lidded eyes widened as he turned to see Mark arriving. The older was bent over to take off his sandals so he could join his boyfriend.
The vibe was a readable one, so neither shared any words of greeting nor was any of their loving interactions shared. They simply stared into the distance while embracing the serene and wholesome moment.
They were all each other needed in that moment.
