CHAPTER SIXTEEN: Down Under

You had been off in the woods again with the others still behind trying process what just happened. Everyone in shock. Beth almost getting killed by her walker mom. Luckily Kenny found you and sat beside you while you were in your deep thoughts.

*DARYL POV*

I had no idea this would be happening, I did not expect that. But seeing what happened to Nic broke my heart. Poor Carol running into the house. I wanted to go after her  but she shoved me off of her so I couldn't really help. I felt so awful.

I watched her walk away and the only thing that was going through my mind was this poor girl did everything she could, only to find Sophia was dead all along and it irritated me how it hurt Carol, how it hurt Nic, I got an arrow and she got a sprained ankle.

We did all this for nothing. And giving Carol false hope. I think Nic thinks Carol won't forgive her. The guilt that she carries, is also the guilt I carry. For letting her go out in the forest alone, for chasing a little ghost in the forest.

Telling Carol she was alive, giving her all this hope that turns out wasn't even there after all. It angered me to the core. She almost died for little girl who was gone THIS WHOLE TIME! I almost got killed for a little girl who was gone THIS WHOLE TIME! It was all for nothing.

I saw Beth running to a walker that we had shot. It probably was her mother or sum. But she kneeled down and the walker attacked her, I just walked away, the other guys can handle it. I saw Izzy walking back

"Hey Iz Imma go for Nic" I said to her but she stopped me from doing so.
"Don't. Just give her her space, same with Carol. Just don't try to fix anything, they need their time alone." what she said to me annoyed me even more.

"NO I let her off in the forest once alone for a dead girl. There's no way I'm letting her go like that again"
"Daryl I'm telling you don't" but I didn't listen, I walked off anyway. I can't believe we would risk our lives like that.

I look back and see Shane approaching Hershel and Rick following them.

"We've been out coming and goin in dees woods and she was in there all along?!" Shane yelled at Hershel.
"you knew didn't you"
"SHANE JUST LEAVE US ALONE!" Maggie shouted.
"Shane stop" Rick intervened.
"Get your hands off me. You knew and you kept it form us"
"I didn't know"
"that's bullshit I think yall knew"
"we didn't know" Maggie said once again.
"Why was she there then?!"
"Otis put those people in the barn maybe he found her and put her in there before he was killed" Hershel trying to explained.

"You expect me to believe that what do you like to you an Idiot to you?" Shane said stepping up to Hershel.
"hey hey hey!"
"I don't care what you believe"
"everybody just calm down" Rick said trying to stop everyone from yelling.

"Get him off my land!" Shane was furious and came to Hershel face to face.

"let me tell you sum man"
"Hey. HEY" Maggie slapped him across the face. "DON'T TOUCH HIM!" She yelled. well damn Maggie I thought.

"Havn't you and Nic done enough!" she said angrily.
"I mean it. Off my land" Hershel said one last time before walking on the door.

Before I walked away I hear Shane and Rick yell again. Jeez these people can't get enough.

"You had us out in those woods, looking for a little girl that every single one of us knew was dead. And Nic had a good heart to at least try and give Carol hope even though it ended up the way it did even though she knew that she was dead but didn't want to admit it. That's what you did. Rick your just as delusional as that guy" Shane said walking off.
