8PM - Ferry

"It used to be a military base."

I sat up from my slumping position while watching Edwards Island slowly come into my view. Huh. Its surprisingly bright at uh.. 8pm.

"Well, it used to be a ranching thing, then it was turned into an army thing, then it became a bird thing and a museum or whatever."

I wonder how long this ferry is going to take...

"Henry Fonda stationed here, I think, for a bit, unless he was Navy."

"Who's Henry Fonda?"

"Around Christmas time, this little breakfast place used to sell these amazing polar bear sugar cookies."

I felt around in my pockets, phone..check...I'm not really sure why I tagged along with the others, I bet Ren would babble about something stupid once we get there. Kinda cute of him... Hah.

"Man, those were good. And then one year, they changed the formula or whatever, and ruined it."

"Alex? Hey. Still with us?"

Uh oh, I didn't realise Alex wasn't responding "You haven't said anything for like ten minutes."

"Mission control to Alex? This is Big Poppa. Do you read me?"

"Yeah. Yeah, my... my mind drifted for a second."

"So you all moved in?" Ren asked Jonas and Alex.

Oh, almost forgot Jonas was coming along, hah. Weird Alex having a step-brother after what... happened.

"Um...Not--not really. I just got in this morning." Jonas said, tapping his foot on the ferry's flooring.

"And how did her mom meet your dad, exactly?"

"Hah.. They met on vacation in Orlando? He got lost in a-- y'know, actually, I'm not even gonna tell this story."

Ohoho this is good.

"It's really not worth it."

"Haha, Okay."

I nudged Alex's shoulder and asked her to remind Jonas.

"No, wait, what happened? I feel like I haven't heard this." She said, walking up the steps of the ferry and looked around.

"He got lost in some gardens, and he thought she worked there and, blah blah blah, they hit it off."

"Aww, that's downright adorable." Ren cooed.

"Haha, you're right about that.." I looked at him for a moment but of course he caught me, giving me his wide grin

Alex walked back down to watch the waves rolling against the ferry.

"And you guys just met tonight?" Ren asked Jonas, looking at me for a quick moment before turning to Jonas.

He's kinda cute, even if I lost a bit of sleep last night thinking about him.

"Yeah, I was, um... I'd been out of school... and the timing had just never worked out, so." Jonas answered.

Ren nodded, understanding what Jonas said, "And what does that make you to her then? A, uh, second cou-"

"He's my step-brother." Alex butted in, standing near the two teens.

"Oh yeah. I forgot that was even a thing." Ren muttered.

"Well, at least you seem cool, right? Cool guy, cool hat... you get a cool new sibling, living right in your house." He added on.

"Sharing your toothbrush... wearing your clothing... eating your food... smelling up your bathroom..."
