Chapter 12: Are You Asking Me Out Right Now?

"I love you."

Sometimes, I was dumb enough to believe the saying.

"Ash? you home?" The tv is on but she isn't in sight. I move to hang up my jacket until I realize that someone's beat me to it.

My heart drops when I hear the soft chattering inside our room.

"Are you sure your not seeing anyone else?"

"We've been over this, the stuff in the bathroom is my brothers." she giggled. "I love you, only you."

It's funny, she said those exact words yesterday.

I stand up silently and pull out my phone. I want to call someone, anyone.

I grab my wallet and keys slamming the door shut. She answers after a couple rings.

"Matthew?" her voice is soft, calming.

"Are you busy?"

"Not at the moment.."

"Do you want to hang out?" please say yes.

"...Are you okay?" My voice is shaking, more then I want it to. "is that a yes?"

I drive to y/n's apartment and she runs out to my car. "Where are we going?"

"Somewhere, Anywhere." she stares at me for awhile before she pulls out her phone. "I know a place."

The gps takes us to an empty park, it has a big lake with swans in it. I sit down on the grass while y/n goes to buy some bread from a man.

She plops down next to me and takes a bite, "Want some?" I shake my head, pulling on the grass.

She feeds the swans quietly, from time to time I feel her gaze on me. "Ashley's cheating on me." I blurt out.

"O-Oh.." she drops the bread in surprise but hurries to pick it up.

"I feel so stupid. I should've seen it coming, she never really showed interest in me and we were falling apart anyways." My eyes are teary so I look up at the white sky.

"You're not stupid. She's stupid for losing someone as good as you." her voice is comforting, It makes me breakdown completely.

"This whole fucking time, she was using me.." I cover my face with my hand and bring my knees to chest. "I'm such a dumbass."

y/n grabs my hands pulling them away from my face and embraces me, although it surprises me I slowly wrap my arms around her.

"It's okay, let it out." I squeeze her silently crying into her neck.

The air was cold, it was windy and the park was quiet.

(It was probably then, with y/n in between my legs hugging me close.. that I realized how much I had missed her.)

Eventually, my tears had stopped but when y/n tries pulling away I pull her back.

"Matthew..?" I could practically hear her become flustered. "Just a little longer, please?"

I dug my face into her neck where I could smell her warm scent and hear her uneven breathing. 

After awhile she whispers,"Uhm.. my arms falling asleep." I laugh pulling away.

I watch her as she cautiously sits down next to me, y/n's changed in these past three months.

Sure her hairs a different color but she isn't clingy and she doesn't talk as much as she used to. In a way, I still miss her.

"Hey, don't get sad on me again." she smiles kindly. "You've changed a lot." I point out.

"Other then my hair? I guess. There's this guy at work, he's been chasing me around lately." she breaks the bread into small pieces as she talks.

"It made me realize how annoying it must've been for you." She nervously plays with her hoodie. "Although, I think it's kind of cute. The way he's trying so hard."

my heart drops, "Do.. Do you like him?"

"hmm.. I don't know." y/n stands, "Are you ready to go home?"

I look down at the grass again, "have you already watched the second part of Robots vs Aliens?"

she sighs and leans against a tree watching the swans. "Nope, i've been to busy with school and work." I nod.

"So uhm.. I still haven't watched it either."

"Are you asking me out right now?" she teases. "Wha- no! I just- ugh never mind!" I stammered.

She laughs and bends down so I stop avoiding her eyes. "Hey, it was a joke." there's a smirk on her face that makes my stomach flutter. 

"Whatever.." I mutter with a blush I don't want her to see. She pinches my cheek. "Cute." there's no flirty tone, just pure teasing.

Nonetheless my blush deepens and I shove her away, y/n giggles. "My moms at her boyfriends house, so we could watch it at mine."

"Okay, but I have a morning class tomorrow and it's already late so let's hurry." she begins walking over to the car and I chase after her.

I don't know how i'm going to explain this to Kade..

"Max should be home too."

"Who's Max?"

"Kades son, he's a little aggressive but overall a good kid." As we open the door the dogs run to y/n who immediately drops to the ground to pet them.

"Daddy! an intruders here!" Max runs up to me punching me in the gut. "hey buddy.." I groan.

He looks at y/n and crawls on her back. "Who are you?"

she stands and grabs Max as she spins. "I'm a gremlin!" Max giggles and clings to her. "Noo!"

The weird feelings back, it's not an unpleasant feeling but it makes my heart race and my face heat up.

maybe i'm sick?

"Well, well, well.." I glare at Kade who winks at me, "If it isn't y/n!" she smiles politely at my brother, "Sorry for intruding a second time."

Kade shrugs "Matthew doesn't seem to mind." I send him a look that says 'Shut up.'

"We don't mind either!" Jessie says wrapping y/n in a hug. "You're fun to have around."

Its different from bringing Ashley home, there's no awkward silences or scowls. "Okay well, we're gonna watch a movie upstairs."

"Hey! door stays open!" Kade calls after us, I flip him off but keep it open anyways. Y/n throws herself on my bed and sighs peacefully.

"Make yourself at home." I say sarcastically.

"I'm tired and your beds comfortable." I sit on the edge of the bed, nervously fumbling with the dvd.

Y/n seems to notice my hesitation and rolls over so she's facing me. "Hey, Why're you so nervous?"

I swallow as my eyes trace every detail on her pretty face.

Maybe it's because I haven't talked to her in three months and i'm craving her touch.

Maybe it's because I can't understand my feelings toward her and I don't like the way my hearts racing.

Or maybe..it's the fact that i've just noticed how fucking perfect she really is.
