‘Beep, beep, beep’ I hear blaring in my ear. Groaning I reach over and feel around my bed side table until I hit the alarm clock. After a minute of lying in bed staring at the ceiling, I pull the blankets off my body and get up. I walk into the bathroom and turn the shower on. Once it’s warm enough I strip my clothes off and get into the shower. After I quickly wash my hair and body I get out, dry my body off and blow dry my hair. After my hair is blow dried and looking perfect, I put on a tiny bit of makeup and wrap a towel around my body.

Walking out into my room, I check and make sure my backpack is packed and on my bed ready for me to grab and walk out the door. As I make my bed, I hear music start to play. I look out the window and my eyes meet with Anakin’s. He is shirtless, only wearing a pair of jeans that hang low on his hips. Realizing I am wearing only a tiny towel, I break eye contact and rush into my closet. I grab the outfit that I set out for my first day of school. It is a pair of light wash jean shorts, a skintight black tshirt and a red and black checkered flannel on top that is kept open. I put a pair of black vans on my feet and look in the mirror. My outfit is a hipster kind of look but still screams I am a good girl, my hair is in light waves and my makeup done to perfection.

I then walk out of my closet, grab my backpack and phone and head downstairs. There is a chocolate chip muffin on a plate waiting for me at the table, and mom is just putting a glass of milk on the table next to the plate as I walk into the kitchen.

“Good morning” my mom says in a cheery voice. “You ready for school kiddo?” dad asks as he looks up from his newspaper.

“As ready as I'll ever be” I say in a nervous tone.

“Don’t worry, you’ll be fine. Everybody will love you and you’ll make lots of new friends,” mom says hopefully.

“Sure.”

After I finish eating, I put my dishes in the dishwasher,  grab my backpack and say, “Everybody ready to go?”

“Yeah come on” mom replies.

I sit in the back seat quietly for most of the ride, thinking about my school in California and really hoping to find a new friend I can at least hang out with. I don’t want a best friend, I already have three, but I do want at least one friend I can talk to in school.

“Hey Mary” My mom says nervously, breaking the silence.

“Ya?”

“So your father and I both have to get to work a little earlier now that the summer is over.”

“Okay, so?” I question.

“So we won’t be able to drive you to school in the mornings” she says sympathetically.

“What?! How am I supposed to get to school then? I can’t walk, it’s too far!” I scream out.

“I asked Lillian to take you to school,” she says, also in a nervous tone.

“Okay, I’m fine with that,” I agree.

“There’s just one thing,” she says as she glances at my father, “Lillian doesn’t drive Anakin to school, he drives himself.”

“So you are saying that I have to ride in a car with a person who hates my guts?” I practically scream.

“He doesn’t hate your guts, and he doesn’t have a choice. Lillian will tell him tonight that he has to drive you. It’ll be fine Mary, ten minutes in a car with him won’t kill you. I can pick you up from school and go back to work if you want.” She says, trying to compromise.

“No it’s fine, I don’t want to disturb you. I won’t get back until at least 5:30 though because of Anakin’s football practice,” I say warning her and dad.
