As soon as my last period class is over I rush out of the room and to my locker. Leaning on my locker door waiting for me is Makayla. As soon as Makayla spots me, she starts frantically waving and jumping up and down. I laugh, walk up to my locker and say, “You look like a crazy person.”

“I’m just excited for our sleepover tomorrow!” She squeals.

“I am too. It’s gonna be so much fun!”

“Of course! I can’t wait! Hey, do you need a ride home?”

“Yes!” I practically yell. I slam my locker shut after /I've gotten all of my books out that I need for my homework.

“Is riding with Anakin really that bad?” she asks me.

“Ya, all he does is crank up the music and give me dirty looks.

“I promise I won’t do that” Makayla says while laughing and walking with me down the hall.

“You better not. We just have to walk over to the field so I can tell Anakin I am getting a ride, he forgot his phone at home today” I say with an eye roll.

“Ya sure, come on” Makyla says as she changes directions. We get to the field just as the football players are warming up by doing laps.

As soon as we walk over to the edge of the field, one of the boys breaks off from the group and runs over to us. When the boy is about ten feet away from us he pulls of his helmet revealing the one and only Anakin Scott.

He jogs up to us, runs his hand through his sweaty hair  and says, “What do you guys need?”

“Scott! Stop flirting with the girls and get back to practice!” The coach yells across the field.

“Give me a second!” He yells back and turns to look at us, waiting for us to say something.

“Mary is getting a ride with me so she doesn’t have to deal with you and your douchebaggery” Makayla says to him.

I may have imagined it but I think I saw a flash of hurt in Anakin’s eyes before he rolls his eyes and says, “Whatever” and runs back to practice.

“Come on, let’s go” Makayla says as she pulls me away from the field and towards her car.

“OMG, OMG, AHHHHHH!” Makayla screams as she runs across her front lawn and tackles me in a hug as soon as I step out of my mom’s car. My mom laughs at my crazy friend and gets out of the car with me. I grab my bag out of the back and walk with my mom and Makayla into the house. Makayla’s mom and my mom start to talk immediately so Makayla takes my arm and drags me upstairs and into her bedroom.

Her room is a deep purple with white, black and grey furniture and bedding. She has pictures all over her wall of our friend group. When she sees me looking at the pictures she says, “We need to take some pictures so I can add you to my wall. It would be crazy to have all these pictures and not have a single one of them be my best friend.”

“Of course, we can take lots of pictures this weekend. It'll be a blast!”

Makayla agrees then jumps onto her bed. I sit down on the other side of the bed just as Makayla says, “So what do you want to do?”

“We could watch a movie, go on the internet, listen to music, talk?” I say, listing our options.

“Talk!” Makayla screams out excitedly.

“Okay sure. What about?” I ask, a bit nervous as to what she wants to know.

“Explaining everything there is to know about you and Anakin. I’ve been dying to know since the first day of school!” she all but yells.
