Everyone knew that Lily Evans hated James Potter, they had a one-sided rivalry on her end because James didn't hate her. In fact James really liked her and constantly went out of way to show her how much he liked her but Lily was simply just not interested. James was being more annoying than usual and Lily had enough of him.
Lily whirled around and said "That is it? I'm so sick and tired of your annoying antics, so why don't you do us all a favor and shut the hell up already?".
Everyone in the hall way went quiet and Lily said nervously "Uh, why is everyone so quiet?".
James said finally replying with a shocked expression "Because you just said it in front of all of the teachers".
Lily turned around to find that the teachers were glaring at her.
Lily suddenly said laughing "I was just kidding, right James? wasn't I just joking?".
James who didn't want to throw her under the bus said yes and made sure she didn't get in trouble.
Lily said as everyone went their separate ways "You know you didn't have to do that, but I appreciate it".
James said "Lily, I'd do anything for you. You know that right?".
Lily said looking at him "Yeah, I know that".
James said "Hey uh I'll walk with you to class".
Lily said as she smiled at him for the very first time "You know, that would be really nice".
As they were walking James said "Look, Lily I'm sorry for everything that I've done and I promise I won't go after Snape anymore, can we be friends at least?".
James put his hand out for a handshake and said "Friends?".
Lily looked at his hand and then hugged him instead, James hugged her back and James said "So I'm taking that as a yes?".
Lily said "Yeah it's a yes, we're friends now".
Lily then pulled back and James said "Come on let's get to class".
The two certainly weren't rivals anymore.
