Marinette's Rejection

"Pound it!" said Ladybug and Chat Noir, bumping fists.

"Let's do this again soon, my lady," Chat Noir grinned with a wink.

"See ya kitty," she called behind her, and with that they bounced away, leaving the akumatized victim with the police.

Later, at school, Marinette shivered with her friends; today was going to be the day, she could feel it!

"You got this girl!" she heard Alya call from behind her, and she did.

Although still anxious, she knew Adrien would say yes because this time, she was actually confident. She marched toward him, fidgeting with her jacket.

"H-h-hey, Adrien," she said with a wave. Adrien turned around and returned the smile. He was in high hopes as well, as he had just seen Ladybug earlier that day when they were battling the akuma victim.

"So, um, Adrien, I was wondering if you might want to...hang out later? Just the two of us?"

"You mean, like a date?"

"Yes! I mean, no of course not the whole gang will be there too, I mean...yes?"

"Oh, I'm sorry Mari--" God, she hated it when he called her that. Why flirt with her when he was just going to say no?--"but there's actually...this other girl..."

Of course. Lila! Marinette had known that girl was up to no good! Stealing Adrien from her...well, not that Adrien was hers too steal in the first place, but still. That lying no-good scheming little--

"Oh, please don't be mad! We can still hang out together, I would just feel bad leading you on by going on a date if I can't reciprocate. Please forgive me!"

And even though she felt like pushing Lila down a well, Marinette managed to smile. For Adrien. "Of course Adrien. Well, thanks for being honest." And with that, she rejoined her friends.

"Oh, girl, I'm so sorry. But if Adrien doesn't see how amazing and talented you are, he doesn't deserve you. Look, I know you've been pining after Adrien for a year now, but maybe now you can focus on other things. Luka's pretty cute, right?" Alya said with a sad but determined smile. Only Alya could manage to make Marinette feel better after being rejected by Adrien.

"Thanks Alya," Marinette said, giving her a hug. The other girls and Nino joined in as well. "Well, um," Marinette stammered, trying to hold back tears. "I'll see you guys later. I gotta go, um, help my parents with, um, something." She ran away, face in her hands.

Meanwhile, Hawkmoth felt a rise in emotion in his lair. Between the anger at Lila and sadness over her failure, Marinette's recent rejection would make for his greatest attempt at recovering the miraculous ever! Releasing his akuma into the city, he cackled to himself. This time would certainly be different.
