You got out of the door of the taxi in front of King's Cross Station. You looked up at the sign to make sure you were in the right place (you were) and then down at your watch to make sure you were on time(10:45). The no maj, or muggle as they called them in Europe, got out of the taxi too to help get your trunk from the back of the car. You secretly wished your parents were the ones dropping you off at King's Cross, but you knew they couldn't step away from work.
"Alright love, I think that's all you've brought." The no maj made a weird face as he put your owl cage on top of your trunk. Your barn owl, Sunday, let out an angry hoot. You thanked him and handed him what you owed. You entered King's Cross Station.
The train station was bustling with three different types of people: ones who were running to catch trains, ones who were calmly waiting for trains, and family members saying goodbye. Again, you wished that your own parents were here to send you off. You shook the thought from your head, gathered your trunk in one hand, Sunday in the other, and started towards Platform 9 3/4. You had no idea where you were going, which was proving to be a common theme in your European life. After about two minutes of walking — and a lot of odd stares towards Sunday — you found Platform 9. You looked around, but there didn't seem to be a Platform 9 3/4. You took out the letter Dumbledore sent you and looked it over. Sure enough, it said Platform 9 3/4 and King's Cross Station. Puzzled, you looked around again.
Then, you spotted another owl. This signaled to you that wizards were near, since no majes didn't have owls as pets. You looked to who the owner was, and saw the smiling face of one Harry Potter. You felt a wave of relief wash over you.
"Harry!" You shouted. The station was loud, so you had to make sure he would hear you.
"y/n!" He started towards you, and you him.
"Harry, how do we get to Platform 9 3/4? It's not here!" You told him.
"It is here," He said with a grin. "You just have to know where to look."
Two people came up behind him. One was a girl, with bushy brown hair with frizzy curls. She was about a head shorter than him, but her aura made her feel taller. She was wearing muggle clothes: a black turtleneck and plaid skirt. She completely fit in at King's Cross Station.
The boy on the other side of him was almost the exact opposite of the girl. About a head taller than Harry, you wondered if he was taller than even your father. He had warm, ginger hair and freckles than marked every inch of his visible body. You felt your legs get a little wobbly. You were a sucker for freckles.
You made eye contact. Somehow, you had missed his eyes. They were blue, like the ocean. And much like the ocean, seemed to pull you in. A shiver ran down your spine. The boy blushed and looked away.
"Harry, we really have to get to the train." The girl said.
"Hermione, Ron, this is y/n. Y/n, this is Hermione and Ron." Harry said.
"Hello" You gave a shy wave.
"It's very nice to meet you, y/n." Hermione said. "Are you going to be sitting with us on the train?"
"Um, sure." You told her.
"Are you American?" She asked. You fought the urge to roll your eyes. You were sick of this question already.
Before you could answer, another girl with flaming red hair came up behind everyone.
"Mum says that if you don't get your butts over there, she's taking everyone home." She said and turned towards you. "I'm Ginny" Then she walked away.
"Well, let's get going, then." Harry said, his cheeks slightly pink.
The four of you made your way to the family of red heads that stood about twenty feet away, in front of a large pillar. Then Ginny walked through the pillar. Your jaw dropped. Harry saw your reaction and explained that it was the entrance to the platform, but it had to be hidden from muggles. Then, two red headed boys, who looked about a year older than you, went through the platform too. Then it was your turn. A plump red headed woman next to you, who you could only image was the mother of them all, gave you a bright, reassuring smile.
"You must be y/n. Harry told us all about you. I'm Mrs. Weasley. This is Mr. Weasley" She gestured to the man standing next to her, who also had red hair. "Now, all you have to do is walk through the pillar. If you're nervous, you can run a bit." She told you.
You weren't feeling very nervous, so you just walked through the pillar. The second you passed, it was as if you had just come out on the other side of the pillar on Platform 10. You would have thought that to be true if it weren't for the big sign that said "9 3/4". There was also a massive dark red train that had pulled in that said "Hogwarts Castle" on the side. You looked at the clock on the wall. 10:55. You saw Ginny with the other two red head boys that you now saw were twins. You started towards her and she smiled at you. Behind you, Ron, Hermione, Harry, and Mr. and Mrs. Weasley had gone through the pillar as well. Mrs. Weasley fought her way to the front of the group.
"We've got five minutes! Let's go!" Then, she opened her arms and started to give all her children hugs, including Ron and Hermione. Mr. Weasley did the same.
Then she got to you. She didn't hesitate to wrap you into the best hug you had gotten in a while. Everything about her was comforting and you never wanted to let go. But, you had to.
"Now if you need anything —anything— do not hesitate to write. The kids will help you get situated on the train." Then she turned towards everyone else. "Well, go on then! The train's going to leave without you!"
The group of us rushed towards the train doors. The twins went one way, and you followed Harry and Ginny the other way. You, Harry, and Ginny filed into one compartment. Ron and Hermione had been right behind you, but did not follow the three of you inside.
"We have to go to the prefects compartment, but we'll come back when we're done." Hermione said. Then, they left.
Harry helped Ginny put her trunk and bags above the seats, and you did the same. After, you all sat back, Harry and you on one bench, and Ginny on the other.
"So, y/n, Harry says you're from the States?" Ginny asked, trying to make polite conversation.
"Yeah, I am." You said.
"Why did you transfer to Hogwarts?"
"Well, my dad was offered a job at the ministry here, so he took it. My parents wanted to move to be closer to work since intercontinental apparition can be tricky. But it would be too hard to get me to Ilvermorny for school, so we just figured I could go to school here." You explained.
Ginny was very interested about the differences in Ilvermorny and Hogwarts. Even Harry piped in once and a while. It was a very energetic conversation once Ginny got going. She explained how her father loved all things muggle, and was sure that although you weren't a muggle, you were close enough in his book.
After about four hours, you realized that both of your legs had fallen asleep.
"I'm going to go walk around and get my blood flowing." You told them.
You made your way out of the compartment and down the hall. You looked out the window at the english countryside as you walked. There were vast hills like the sea that went on for miles. Little farms popped up here and there, their pastures filled with crops and animals. The sky was overcast and there was a light fog atop all of the green. You thought about what it would be like to live there. All of a sudden, a loud POP broke you out of your trance.
You looked to your right and saw a compartment with only two people in it. One was a rather round boy with sandy hair. There was a look of sheer terror on his face. The other person in the compartment was a pale, blonde haired girl with some very... interesting clothes on. Her wand was out, which told you she had just done some magic. Your curiosity got the best of you.
"What was that?" You asked her.
She looked up at you, dazed.
"A spell to get rid of nargles." She told you. "Would you like me to do it on you too?"
You shook your head. "What's a nargle?"
"These little animals that get into your head and make your brain go fuzzy." You glanced at the boy to see if he was believing what she was saying. His face had changed from terrified to confused. He was staring directly at you.
"Are you American?" He asked. You let out a sigh. Then you explained who you were, what you were doing at hogwarts, and why.
"You're in my year, then! My name is Neville." His face was now gleaming with excitement. It was clear that they boy was not used to making friends.
"My name is Luna." The girl spoke up. "You know, in America, nargles are especially bad. If you ever want me to help you get rid of them, let me know. There's an excellent article on them in the Quibbler. My father owns the Quibbler. Would you like one?" She thrust forward a small magazine with the title The Quibbler. You took it.
"Thank you Luna. Could you tell me more about those nargles?" She had interested you with all her crazy talk. Luna broke off into a well prepared speech about nargles while you and Neville listened intently. The discussion then turned to Neville who told you all about some magical plants he'd found over the summer. He told you about how he'd decided he wants to teach herbology at Hogwarts when he's older, but his grandmother wants him to be something "important", like an auror.
"My mom and dad were both aurors. They were the bravest people Gran and I knew." His face became sullen.
"I'm sorry, Neville. I'd love it if you'd help teach me herbology. I was awful at it in Ilvermorny." You said, bringing the topic back to herbology. Neville's face lit up again as he agreed. The conversation picked up again and what felt like only seconds later you looked out the window. It had grown dark. Just then you heard prefects coming down the halls.
"We're almost at the castle, everyone. Please put on your robes." They were saying.
"I'd better get back to my compartment." You told Luna and Neville.
"We'll see you at school." Luna said.
"Bye, y/n"
You left the compartment and tried to remember where to go. You had no idea how long you had been walking before you found Luna and Neville, so you were looking through windows to try to find familiar faces. Finally, you spotted the red hair. You opened the door to the compartment and saw Ginny, Ron, and Hermione.
"Hi, y/n! Where have you been?" Ginny asked.
"I met these kids named Luna and Neville while I was walking and talked to them for a bit."
"Oh we know Luna and Neville!" Hermione piped in. "How are they?"
"Good." Ron had turned bright red again, you noticed, and still had not said anything.
"Well, you'd better change into your ro—wait. You don't have a house yet, do you?" Hermione asked.
"No. The headmaster is giving me a private one once I get there." You explained.
"I hope you're in Gryffindor." Ginny says, smiling. "We're all in Gryffindor."
Everyone changed into their robes quickly. Hermione took her seat next to Ginny, leaving you and Ron to sit together. When you sat down, you felt him tense away. Do I smell bad?, you wondered. You discreetly smelled your robes, and they smelled fine. You glanced at him and his face was the color of his hair. What is his problem? you asked yourself.
"Look at the castle!" Ginny gasped.
You looked out the window at a massive castle sitting across a lake. You couldn't help but gasp yourself.
"Wow." You said without thinking.
"It's always so beautiful at night." Hermione said. "Ron, we should get ready to help first years. Y/n, Ginny can help you find Dumbledore when you get into the castle."
"Does anyone know where Harry is?" Ginny asked, anxiously.
"Does anyone ever know?" Ron mumbled. So he does talk. you thought.
