For the past few days, you've been thinking of the perfect prank whenever you've had free time. Today, you think you figured out the one that will wow the twins the most. Since you've been paying so much attention to your prank, you somehow hadn't noticed your crush on Ron beginning to grow.
It was a Sunday, so breakfast was around 9 am instead of 7 am. Everyone except Hermione slept in. You came down to the common room to see she was already gone —to breakfast you assumed. You decided to just wait until Ron, Harry, and Ginny came down to go to breakfast so you wouldn't have to eat alone. To kill time, you decided to go look out the window.
Hogwarts was a very beautiful school. You felt as though it was impossible to appreciate all its beauty. You looked across the grounds to the lake. It was incredibly vast and you thought about all the creatures that lived within its depths.  You looked at the areas around the lake until you saw a few trees. You thought about how they looked like a great spot to sit and read or study. The sun was up and shining, reflecting off the waters surface. Everything outside looked so calm. The calm was interrupted by slow thumps coming down the stairs. You turned to look to see who had come down and had to refrain from gasping audibly.
You had thought he'd been cute before, but you realized that you had never really looked at him until now. His fiery hair was tussled from hours of sleep and his face held a groggy expression. He was still wearing pajamas — a black long sleeve shirt and red checkered pants with only white socks covering his feet. You thought he was the most perfect person you'd ever seen. He rubbed his eyes and yawned. Then he looked at you and smiled.
"Good morning, y/n. How about some breakfast." Ron said, his voice raspy.
"Sounds good to me." You told him, trying to hide the fact that you were turning redder than a strawberry.
The two of you walked —well, you walked. Ron kind of stumbled along, still groggy— down to the Great Hall. On the way there, Ron was telling you about his dream the previous night.
"And then, a spider on roller skates —just like the one from when I learned out to get rid of boggarts— showed up and knocked out all the bowling pins and we won! Isn't that so weird?"
"Yeah" You agreed. "I wonder what it means?"
You rounded the corner into the Great Hall. Lots of students were already there. You scanned the Gryffindor table for Hermione, but she wasn't there. That meant she was probably at the library. You and Ron took your seats next to Neville and Ginny, who were deep in conversation.
"I really don't know what I did with it this time, Gin." Neville was saying. "My Gran's gonna kill me."
"I'm sure you'll find it. It's got to be somewhere." Ginny reassured him. Then she noticed you and Ron. "Hello you two."
"Morning, Gin." Ron said, piling his plate with pancakes.
"You haven't seen a potion's book, have you?" Neville asked. "I've lost mine again. I know Professor Slughorn won't mind, but my Gran was already mad about having to send me a new one."
You racked your brain. You knew you'd seen one somewhere, but you weren't sure where. Then, you remembered.
"I think I did see one, actually. It was on the windowsill in the left corner of the common room." You told him.
"Really? Oh, thank you, y/n!" He jumped out of his seat and raced back to the common room to look.
"Big plans for today, you two?" Ginny asked you and Ron.
"Homework. I've been struggling a lot in History of Magic. I might have to actually go to the library." Ron said, shoving a pancake in his mouth as he spoke.
You thought History of Magic was your easiest class, so this surprised you. You realized what you should suggest.
"I've already finished all the work for History of Magic yesterday. I could help you if you want."
Ron's face lit up and he said "Really? That would be awesome, y/n!"
You smiled to yourself about being able to spend time with Ron. Then, you remembered the spot you saw this morning while looking out the window.
"I saw this really nice spot this morning near a bunch of trees by the lake. We could study out there to get some fresh air."
"Sounds good. We can go after breakfast."
You both looked up as you saw Harry coming towards you. He took Neville's seat next to Ginny.
"Morning, you lot." He said in a breath as he sat. "How about some quidditch practice this morning, Gin?"
He seemed to be particularly happy this morning.
"Sounds good to me." Ginny said.
She had already finished, so she watched the rest of you eat. You talked about the upcoming quidditch tryouts, which Harry and Ginny would be attending. Harry was made captain, so he was automatically on the team. From what you heard, Ginny was a great player as well, so she was also a shoo-in. Ron said that he was thinking of trying out too, but McLaggen had talked him out of it.
"He's a bit scary. Besides, I think I like watching it more than I like playing it."
"I'm stuffed." Harry said, patting his stomach to show that he was full.
Both you and Ron had finished eating too, so you all rose to go back to the common rooms. After changing into normal clothes, you met Ron, Harry, and Ginny to go outside. Harry and Ginny were wearing work out clothes and Ron was in a knitted sweater and trousers.
The air was crisp and slightly chilled from autumn beginning to creep in. The leaves on the trees had started turning a nice shade of yellow-orange. Although there was not the full effect of fall foliage, it was still quite beautiful. Harry and Ginny broke off and headed down towards the quidditch pitch. You and Ron walked side by side to the patch of trees you had seen that morning, a bag full of school work slung carelessly over Ron's shoulder. Finally, you arrived at the trees. The mid morning sun shone down on the grass around the trees like it was heaven on Earth. There was no one else around. It seemed that everyone was inside, which you didn't mind. You could spend more time alone with Ron. He sat down, leaning his back against a tree, tossing the back down next to him. You sat in front of him and began taking books and rolls of parchment out of the bag.
"This is a nice place to study" Ron said, taking a deep breath of fresh air.
"I think so to." You told him. "What is it that you need help with?"
You opened the History of Magic book.
"I'm having a hard time remembering all of Merlin's achievements."
The two of you spent the next three hours going over Merlin's achievements until Ron had memorized every last one flawlessly. He was a lot funnier than you remembered, which made learning with him much more fun. You were surprised he was able to learn throughout all the giggling and laughing fits. You couldn't remember the last time you had so much fun studying. By the time you were done, you had actually learned more than you thought you knew.
Finally, the bell tower rang, signally that it was noon.
    "Lunch already?" Ron said.
"I feel like we've only been out here for a few minutes." You started packing up the books and parchment sprawled out on the ground.
The two of you started the trek back up to the school. Harry and Hermione were waiting for the two of you in the Great Hall. Harry looked positively thrilled to see you. Hermione, however, had her head in a book.
"How was studying?" Harry asked you as you sat down, a childish grin wiping over his face.
"It was good. A lot more fun that I expected." You answered, glancing at Ron who was filling his plate.
You turned towards the heaps of food on the table and chose what looked like a ham sandwich and an apple.
Hermione finally took her nose out of her book and joined the conversation.
"How was quidditch practice, Harry?" She said with a childish grin plastered across her face.
"Uh- Erm- It was good." Harry stammered, looking flustered and turning away.
"My sister's definitely making the team, right Harry?" Ron asked.
"That's for sure." Hermione answered and Harry shot her a look that told her to shut her trap.
That's when it clicked for you. You looked from Harry to Ginny, who was sitting farther down the table with Neville and the twins, who happened to be looking at Harry dreamily. Clearly they had a thing for one another and Hermione knew. It was blatantly obvious that Ron was entirely oblivious to the blossoming relationship because he had no reaction whatsoever to Hermione's suggestive remarks.
"Ginny is a great player, Ron." Harry said, glaring at Hermione as he said it. "I think she'd make a great chaser."
"Well that's brilliant, mate! She'll be thrilled. All she ever talked about all summer was being on the team." He turned to you and lowered his voice. "Bloody annoying if you ask me."
You giggled at him and he smiled.
"I'm finished." Hermione stated and stood up rather quickly.
"You've barely eaten anything." Harry said. "Where are you in such a hurry to?"
"I've eaten plenty and I'm going to the common room." She said huffily.
"What's in the common room?" Ron asked.
Hermione hesitated. "I- I have to get some of my books."
Then she sped off.
"That was weird." Ron said to the group after she was out of ear shot. "I know she loves books and all, but she's never in that much of a hurry."
You just shrugged. You had a feeling something was suspicious about her actions, but didn't want to flame the fire that Ron was about to create. You looked over to where Harry had been sitting to see if he had anything to say about the situation, but he was no longer there. He had slid down the table next to Ginny.
You turned back to Ron, who was staring at you.
"Thank you for helping me study today. I would've failed my History of Magic assignment without you. I think I'm ready for my test too." He said and you felt yourself blush.
"I had fun helping you study. Next time you want to do it again, let me know and I'll gladly help. It'll be fun."
He slide closer on the bench so that your legs were touching.
"Do you want to go on a walk with me around the lake after lunch?" He asked, looking anxiously into your eyes for an answer.
YES YES YES, you wanted to say. But, you then remembered about your prank that was supposed to wow Fred and George. You were supposed to set it up this afternoon.
"I have some business to attend to this afternoon." You told him. "Otherwise, I would have loved to go on a walk with you" You added, just to make sure he knew that any other day you would gladly spend time alone with him.
He frowned for a moment, but then he smirked; his bright blue eyes glittering. "What kind of business."
"Top secret business."
You stood up and walked away from the table, leaving him staring, confused, as you left the Great Hall.
