Jihoon sighs sadly, placing his phone in his pocket as he stared into the distance. He was planning on skipping school that day, and now that Soorin was going to be late, there was more reason why he should. Some might say that this is just a stupid reason to not go to school but Jihoon knows that Soorin was the only one giving him hope in his life. Sure, there were his other friends, but Soorin is just different. It's like he can't live without her.
As he walked on the sidewalk, he came across a black cat. Bending down to pet it, he sees that one of its paws was white, making it look like it was wearing a sock. It reminded him of the time their whole grade all went on a school field trip, and Soorin sprained her ankle when she fell during a treasure hunt; it was a weird memory, but Jihoon still laughs at the thought of it.
"Hey, kitty cat," Jihoon coos quietly. "Aren't you a cute little one?" He boops the nose of the cat, making it meow. As he was petting the cat, someone stopped in front of him, and when he looked up, his face brightened. "Soorin!"
"Ji-Jihoon? Why aren't you in school?!" Soorin exclaims. "I thought you said that you were going to tell Mr. Park that I was going to be late?"
"W-Well I didn't tell you I didn't say anything about me going to be at school, didn't I?" Jihoon fires back. "So, is your mom okay?"
Soorin nods. "Mhm, nothing too serious. The doctor said that she just needs to be careful with her surroundings."
Jihoon hums, placing the cat down, watching it scurry away from other humans. He pats his hands on his thighs. Soorin sighs, taking a pack of wet tissue from her bag, handing one over to Jihoon to use. He quietly thanks her, wiping his hand on the wet tissue.
Once again, they were both quiet, as if they haven't talked to each other for years. Stopping at the zebra cross, Jihoon notices that Soorin was rubbing her arms, trying to get herself warm. Jihoon quickly took off his scarf and wrapped it around Soorin's neck.
"W-What?" Soorin asks, grabbing Jihoon's hand to stop him. "What are you doing? You're going to get cold."
"No, I'm not," Jihoon says. "You're the one who's cold right now. Plus, I have my jacket, and it goes up to my neck. I'm fine." Soorin blushes lightly, and she hopes that Jihoon takes it that the cold makes your cheeks grow red.

When they reached school, Soorin and Jihoon separated from one another because it was now PE class and they had to warm up with students of the same gender (a really weird and old-fashioned rule).
"Hey, Soo," Mina spoke. "What were you doing with Jihoon? You both came in late today and your cheeks are red. Did something happen to both of you?"
"What?!" Soorin exclaimed. "No! Nothing happened! I-I guess it's because of the cold."
"Soorin, you can't fool us," Mina says. "We have known you ever since you first got here, so I know when you're lying."
Soorin blushes, making her cheeks even redder than before. "O-Okay, fine! Nothing happened, but he did lend me his scarf because he saw me shivering."
Mina cooed. "Aww! That's so cute! You guys are literally made for each other, you know that, right? Everyone else can clearly see that you guys love each other, but you guys just don't sense it!"
Soorin sighs. "I mean, it's not a big deal. If these feelings fade then we'd stay friends, and I won't have to be awkward around him anymore."
"Damn, it must be hard being you," Mina says, and Soorin scoffs, playfully hitting Mina.
Today may have been cold, but it was indeed a good day.
