Hacking. Coughing. That became your routine each night for minutes on end, eyes flowing with tears as they stream down the crevices of your cheeks and onto the luminescent floor only lit by the colored LED lights that were strung un your bathroom. The sound of something falling into the water of the sink brings your attention back forward, your head ringing with pain and ache, fingers visibly trembling as they grasp tightly on the countertop. A beautiful (f/f) flower unfolded into the blood stained h2o, floating softly atop the tension of it. How could something that used to be so innocent turn so malicious? Hanahaki was a common disease where you're from- but that doesn't stop it from being any less deadly. Love, and be loved- or die.

Your pained back slumps against the sink cabinet, your labored breathing becoming more difficult with each breath. This fit wasn't a touch and go- it was bad. It was getting worse. Your tender fingers grace the musty bathroom floor, weakly, searching blindly for your cellphone. Luckily, it's cracked screen lit up as the floor vibrated with the echoes of the impact from your hand onto it. Your tired eyes skim the floor, lining to grab the source of light. Soon, your bloody fingers make contact with a smooth surface that could not be recognized as the layout you sat on, hastily grabbing the rectangular figure and bringing it up to your face. Your head falls down, your neck giving out from the lack of energy.

The lock screen from your phone flickers softly, the background of you and zim catching your attention almost immediately. Suddenly you feel sick, more sick than you've ever felt in your entire life. your throat burns with a firery feeling as something evil crawls up and pries at your weak mouth to free itself. You gag- three small flowers falling out from doing so. You let out a habored sob, your breath silent from the strained vocal cords that you used crying over the fact that he's never going to love you back. You sniffle, instinctively, sighing shakily. Your phone opens with a click, straight to the messages you and Zim exchanged in previous days. At the bottom were an array of messages from the boy himself- all in a worried yet stubborn tone.

y/n please answer my cellular service messages immediately. Your ignoring of me is not humorous

You giggle at the way he types- Grammatically incorrect but loveable all the same. You could feel the flowers still pouring fron your mouth as you laughed manically- big ghibli tears falling from your eyes like comically oversized raindrops from a movie you might've watched when you were 7. The memories replay in your mind like a videotape on loop, each time becoming more painful with each line of dialogue.

There you were, two weeks prior. Your clothed legs swinging gently from the ledge of a scrapped machine that Zim had been working on, you watching the alien boy work on the 'new, and improved' version of it. If you were in a cartoon love hearts would have surely been floating by your head, but thankfully enough that wasn't the case. You tilted your head, softly, to the side.

"Hey, Zim?" You hummed, refusing to look at him whilst you spoke.

"What?" he responded in the same high pitch yet gruff tone that made your heart ache every time he spoke.

"Do you think..." You choked on the words, sweat threatening to pour from every pour on your face. "You'll ever love someone?"

Suddenly, the world had froze, time had stopped, and only you and him were real in that dreaded moment. The sounds of clinking and cranking had come to a stop, and his working hands had no longer shoved themselves into the machine he was working on. He was still, before he let out a repeated tone, but more breakingly.

"What- What?" He looked back at you with his big glowing magenta eyes, furrowed into a confused and a general conflicted face. His voice cracked at the beginning of his sentence, causing him to go 'AHEM' like the dork he was. "What? No- Pshh, Zim does not have time for the-" He stutters on his words, holding himself high with a nervous laugh and grim in an attempt to play off the question like it didn't affect him. "... Pig love-relations." he spoke after a labored second, making your entire chest curl into an awkward knot.

"Oh," you spoke, your voice now audibly softer and less confident than it was. "I see."

You wanted to cry- You wanted to sob into his shoulder and tell him just how much he hurts you, but whatever was left from your dignity kept you firmly planted in your spot. You both stared at each other with awkward half smiles, before you coughed into your fist. Oh, no. Not good. Your eyes widen, heart beginning to thump wildly in your chest as you excuse yourself from his premise.

So, here you are, now. It was the end, wasn't it? Truly you had already ruined the closeness you and he had with that stunt you pulled, right? He'd be better off without you. You exhaled sharply, your head thrown back to the cabinet once more. Your mouth was turned upward in a smile, reminiscing silently on all of the times you had together, which only made the pain grow larger. Your chest rising and dropping came to a soft slow, your vision growing blurry with the numbness and the tears as the colors of flowers overtook your body. Inhale. Exhale.

But, that was it. That was the last exhale. Your body went stiff. You were gone. The last air from your lungs exit for body with petals that emit from your mouth, and fall gently to the floor.

Your phone dings, the message notification sound that you focused on so intently echoing in the restroom of your house. The screen lit up the now seemingly darker room.
