School lasted about five hours every day, leaving the students to return home in the evening when the sun would begin immersing below the valley, causing the sky to change to a multicolored sequence of a purple, silver and yellow mixed combination in the faint, blue sky.

Students began exiting the school building that was built with white painted covered bricks and consisted of two large wide building connected to each other by hallways. Every room had two to three glass windows, letting light shine through the classroom. Each door was steel, and slid all the way closed and was locked every time during the end of each school day. At the front of the school was the entrance gate that closed once all the students had left the building.

Julia came walking out of the school and looked back over her shoulder to see Elise and Jaundice running towards her.

“Julia!” Jaundice yelled her name and they stopped in front of her. Once they gained their breath, the three of them continued to walk across the campus towards the gate.

“Tomorrow at twelve o' clock we will meet at Sammy's  Best Styles! Is that good for you two?” Jaundice asked while walking in between them.

“Sounds okay to me,” Julia replied.

“Totally!” Elise exclaimed. “Tomorrow let'sgo shopping all day!” They all smiled.

But Elise, we cannot waste too much money,” Julia informed her. Elise rolled her eyes.

“Do not worry. We'll be getting jobs right after graduation so who cares about money at a time like this? It is our last year! We need to have as much fun as we can!”

“Whatever you say, Elise,” Julia replied. She was a bit sensitive when it came to spending all of her coins on clothes and jewelry. Her mother and father had given her and Ed an allowance every week. She felt bad spending the money that their father worked so hard for. Each time she went shopping, she made sure not to spend too much. Her father was the only one  that provided money for the family. Her mother stayed home. But now that her father was dead, her mom would eventually have to get a job.

As they neared the gate, Julia noticed Ed was waiting for her on the side.

“Well, I gotta go,” she told them.

“See you tomorrow Julia!” Jaundice called to her.

“Remember, twelve o' clock at Sammy'sBest Styles!” Elise reminded her.

“Bye!” They yelled to one another. Julia watched them head down along a road straight ahead. Their school was a little ways from the city but not too far. She turned to Ed who was looking at the city.

“Are you ready Ed?” She asked him. He nodded slightly.

“Let'sgo.” They started down a different road and walked past a few other students who were headed in the same direction. All around them were fields of endless dirt and way in the distance were fainted shapes of rolling mountains.

After a few minutes of walking in silence, they entered the city. Julia looked back at Ed and remembered him sitting in the lunch room.

“Ed,” she said. He looked up at her questioningly.

Why don'tyou communicate with your friends?” Ed kept his eyes locked on hers.
