Born in Chicago, Illinois, Johnny trained for more than 8 years in SM since he was accepted on September 2007. He was introduced as an SM Rookie on December 23, 2013. He debuted as an NCT 127 member alongside Doyoung on January 6, 2017 with the release of 127's 2nd mini album "Limitless". In NCT U, he was part of these songs:
