A/N this (idek what to call this omfg) short was requested by Fruity446 Ava goes overboard with a Christmas party outfit. Drunken Adriel makes some distasteful jokes to Vincent which evolve into a discussion on cheese.
"Ava, what the actual fuck?"
"Mary, we're in a house of God," Lilith cautioned semi aggressively. The demoness tried to cool Mary with her gaze, but Mary's attention was fixed disbelievingly in front of her. Lilith turned to the recipient of Mary's criticism. Her eyebrows immediately shot upward. "Ava?" She looked the girl up and down once before continuing. "Wh-why?"
The young woman only gave an excited bounce as response. She donned an oversized deer onesie that hung loosely from her frame, obviously a size or two too big. A red bulb was hastily positioned slightly off centered on her nose. The whole thing was tied together by an absolutely horrendous tree sweater with Pom Pom ornaments, a tinsel trim, and a big, tacky looking red bow haphazardly tied onto the shoulder. "It's my ugly sweater. Duh," she shot back, grinning goofily as always. She bounced and swayed on her feet, trying her best to contain her glee.
Mary stared at her, dumbfounded, a slight smirk on her lips. What a dimwit. A cute and charming dimwit, but a dimwit nonetheless.
"Sooo...Where's Beatrice?"
Lilith scoffed. "Yes," she rolled her eyes, "it's about time you go see your babysitter. Maybe she could help you rethink this decision in festive wear. She's by the fireplace with Camila last time I checked." Lilith tried her best to act disappointed, but failed to contain the affectionate glow in her eyes. She had grown to love Ava as a part of their misfit family, whether she liked it—or would dare to admit—or not.
"She's not my babysitter, but thank you for your courteous assistance." Ava mocked a slight bow.
Mary chuckled. "Be careful with those big words, kid. Don't want to overwhelm yourself."
Ava frowned. "Merry Christmas to you too, unholy Mary and Miss Grumple Stilskin."
Lilith and Mary watched as Ava bounded away to the fireplace, a small white tipped tail swinging behind her as she tried her best to walk in an orderly fashion, but found it impossible to stop the excited bounce to each step. She bounced up to the fireplace, stopping before the two women.
Mary turned to Lilith with a heavy exhale through her nose. "I really hate those nicknames."
Lilith picked up her glass, extending it. "Me too."
Ava bounded up to the other women, Camila going off on a passionate ramble and Beatrice passively listening while she continued her current knitting project: a blanket for the cat that Mother Superion had let Camila keep after finding it loose in the cathedral gardens. She stopped before the two and waited for them to notice her, vibrating with joy. She felt like she could explode.
"But that's the thing right? It's all just wild guesses that just haven't been proved wrong yet. It's so...Urghff. I can't stand most of physics, but definitely not quantum physics. And now they want to build "unhackable internets" for the government?" She sighed. "It's so...stupid but also incredibly smart. I love computers and code and all that, but sometimes I just can't get behind the rest of the—"
Camila glanced up. She blinked in disbelief before cracking the same affectionate smile that Mary had given her, but this time amplified with the sunshine that always seemed to reside within the depths of Camila's soul.
"Merry Christmas!" Ava exclaimed, pouncing on the small woman, enveloping her with a crushing hug.
This caught Beatrice's attention. She looked up from her knitting. She saw a very surprised Camila getting squeezed in one of Ava Silva's happy hugs known to squeeze the breath out of anyone receiving one. Camila's eyes flew wide as she was swept up from her spot in an impressive show of strength before she softened and a strangled laugh came from her. Beatrice laughed softly at the scene before her.
