It is painful to be with you
But your love is worth the pain
Deep in a closet where we can hardly breathe
Holding each other under a veil of deceit
Loving you but nobody can see it
Hickeys, kisses and gentle touches
Enough for them to speculate about us
Yet we can't accept what we have
Or just be happy together
Deflecting from the norm comes at a price
And in this case it's a heavy one to pay
But loving you is like taking a drug
The stronger it is, the more you get intoxicated
I don't know where we stand in future
But the present is our time to be
Maybe our love can't be exhibited
But it'll nonetheless be cherished.

This poem is about the struggles of being in an unconventional relationship, where there is love with loads of uncertainties. Be it an inter-racial, inter-caste, inter-religious or a queer relationship, anything that tries to break the societal norms is suppressed, bullied, buried or shoved into a dark prison of hatred. I have seen this in my life, and have seen people around me face it too. When two people in love are repressed and not allowed to publicly accept their relationship; it turns quite mentally taxing. Isn't it high time we break the glass ceiling and learn to be more accepting and open-hearted!?

P.S. this chapter is dedicated to a dearest friend of mine, who is stepping into another interesting phase of her life, and through this poem I want to congratulate her on figuring out herself, learning her likes and dislikes and renovating her inner-self.
