(Carinas P.O.V)
I woke up in a cold sweat. My room was still pitch black. It's been 7 years since we left the city. The city and mom. That day was still burned into my mind. My room was small but comfy. Dad bought that day. 7 years and I still don't know why we left mom and the city. But that doesn't matter now. I swung my legs over the bed and checked the clock. 7:30! 7:30 in the morning. School starts at 8:30 and I still have chores. I got dressed, did my hair, and brushed my teeth as fast as I could. Backing my bookbag, I made sure to grab my checklist. I ran downstairs with only 6 more things to do before I have to go to school.
1. Cook breakfast
2. Feed the chickens
3. Make lunch for me
4. Make lunch for dad
5. Grab extra shoes
6. Check on dad
This was the daily list. 1-5 was easy. I got them done just in time to check on dad. He didn't come out of his room much in the day. He stayed out in the night. He stayed up training me, teaching me. It was like this since we left.
As I walked into Dad's room, I saw him sitting on the edge of his bed. He was wrapping his arm in cloth. I hurt it last night during training. Walking toward him he looked at me from the side of his eye. He spoke without saying a word.
"Get out Carina. You have no reason to be in here," He said. I wanted to say something but I know if I did it would result in an even worse training day. I placed the food down on the edge of the bed. As I walked out an eerie feeling crept up my back. I froze in the doorway. The room went subzero. Or was it just me??
"Hello, Carina. It's nice to see you again." it was that voice again. It spoke to me every morning. Quickly leaving the house I hurried to school. It was a long walk, but the only thing on my mind was the voice. It talked to me all the way there. It was a combination of male and female voices. It hissed out like a snake. Raspy but soft at the same time. I ignored it. But it only got louder.
"Why do you ignore me, Carina. You know it's rude to ignore your mother?.......... Speak to me, dear. I want to know how your father is." The voice proceeded to bug me. It always claimed to be my mother. I couldn't stand it. Finally reaching the school the voice stopped.
I was a few minutes late. From down the street, I could see Gray running to catch up to me. He was always late. Always bruised, it was weird. He was odd, but so was I. The oddballs in school. That's us.
"Hey Cari! Hey Cari, wait up!" He yelled as he got closer.
"Hurry up Gray. We need to get in class before Mr. Hensburry notices we're gone!" I yelled back as I continued walking. Mr. Hensburry was our homeroom teacher. He was the meanest teacher in the school. Even the other teachers are scared of him. 3 tardy slips from him mean detention, which I didn't have time for. As I walked in the door Grey finally caught up sweating.
"Thanks for waiting A-hole," he said rolling his eyes.
"You take too long to walk. Plus we already have 2 tardy slips, one more, and detention!" I said closing the school door.
"Sorry, I walk too slow for you, your royal highness." He said bowing to me. I rolled my eyes, smiling.
"Oh, Jesus. You got a stick so far up your butt, I can see it through your mouth when you talk, Your greatness." I said mocking him. Just for a flare, I bowed as I opened the classroom door. I walked into the classroom and noticed something different; The teacher wasn't here. Yes! Tardy with no penalty. Grey and I took our seats as we waited for the teacher.
No less than 5 seconds after sitting down and getting settled in, Mr. Hensbury walked in. He looked mad. This was gonna be fun.
"Good Morning class. The board has added two new kids to our class." Looking out at our class he nodded to the principal. She walked in, and behind her, a tallish kid with red hair, and another with black hair and piercings. He was pale, he looked confident and awkward at the same time. From across the room, I could hear Samantha scoffing. She was a popular kid. She controlled all of the girl groups. She decided if you were in, or if you were out. Me and Grey were quickly out due to him being gay and me actually having common sense. I never wanted to be in one of her possies.
"Class, meet Kody and Jaxson, they're twins. Boys, you may take the two available seats near the back." He said, dismissing that they even existed. Turning back to the whiteboard, he started writing up the agenda for the day. Everyone quickly started writing it down. As I zoned out repeating every word written on the board, I felt a tap on my shoulder.
"Hey, can I borrow a pencil? I forgot mine at home. Also, what are we doing?" It was one of the new kids, the one with black hair. I almost forgot about him. I turned back to my desk.
"Here you can keep this. We are writing down the schedule for the day. Do you have a notebook?"
"Yeah, I've got a notebook. By the way, my name's Kody. What's yours?" He asked as he began to write. Mr. Hensburry looked over at us. I stopped talking and so did Kody. Instead, I passed a note: My name's Carina. I hope you enjoy school here, but Mr. Hensburry is the meanest teacher in the school, so it's much easier to pass notes lol. We can talk at lunch if you'd like? I'll be in the back with Grey. P.S Stay away from Samantha, she's the blonde one :P
Turning to the back of the paper, he scribbled something on the back, then passed it back. I continued to write down the rest of the schedule as the bell rang. Everybody quickly ran out of the room. Soon enough Gray caught up to me. Kody was the last to leave, on his way out he bumped into me. I looked at him offended. But he just looked back at his desk, smiled, said sorry then went to catch up to his brother.. Looking back at the desk I saw the note I passed and ran back to get it. Gray decided to tag along. I picked it up and read it
"Thanks for the invite. I'll definitely see u there. I knew Carina once, she lived in my old town like 7 years ago lol. I'll see you in 6th period and lunch. Also is it ok if I bring my brother?" His writing was so elegant. I blushed a little. I finally made a new friend, a cute one too.
"Earth to Carina. Earth to Carina!" Gray smacked the back of my head. I death stared at him. "Would you get your head out of the clouds? Mr. gothic mc-dreamy just got here. You can pass love letters later." He said rolling his eyes.
"Oh, shut your trap. I saw you staring at Mr. Redhead." I said smacking him back. We continued like that the rest of the way to our next class. I had the next three classes without friends.

It was 11:25 when my next class began. Just enough time to grab a snack and run to class. As I ran to my locker, I saw our principal, Mrs. Gibbings, showing Kody and Jackson around the halls. Across the hall, I saw Gray and flagged him over. Seeing me he ran over. We walked past them and waved. I heard the click-clacking heels trail behind us.
"Excuse me, Gray, Carina, could you please tour the Devorak twins? I have a bit of business to attend." We both looked at her a bit shocked and nodded slowly. Gray became quite flustered and red. As she walked off I pulled Gray to the side.
"Kay, so we both like one of them. So here is the plan. You take red-head, and I take Kody. Deal?" I whispered to him. He blushed quickly and nodded. We walked over to them and smiled.
"Heyya, Mrs. Gibbings asked us to tour you guys." Gray nodded in agreement.
"Ok, can I go with Gray?" Gray turned around and shoved his face in his hoodie. He sighed happily and turned back around.
"Yeah, s-sure. Kody can go with Carina then." Gray responded, holding back a major stutter.
"Okay, sounds good, cya later bro." Kody said as they hugged a bit. They let go and went separate ways. I looked back at Gray and teased him a bit as they got further and further away. He blushed a bit and flicked me off. Rolling my eyes, I asked Kody what he wanted to be shown first.
