The hot and sticky summer air has lifted slightly within a week. The rain and wind have taken over, preparing us for Autumn. I can smell it coming. The leaves changing colors, the first frost, it's all just around the corner and I couldn't be any more thrilled.

Draco and I's first detention was set for Monday, four days prior to today, Friday. I am quite eager to get my study time back. Detention ends at 9:00 pm every night, which only leaves me an hour for study time if I want to spend some time with the trio or Draco. I thought Snape would give us some leeway seeing as how important this year is, but turns out he has no remorse.

Although, to my surprise, I have grown to like the quietness of detention. It is an enormous difference from the noisy and chaotic Slytherin common room. I suppose I could bring my homework here, I would probably get more done, anyway. The trophy room is calming, the only sounds are of people walking in the halls. And occasional loud bangs, most likely from the Weasley twins, they are always in some form of trouble.

Despite the fact that sitting here is soothing, the actual chore assigned is no fun at all. Every time I polish a trophy, its dusty surface appears seconds later. The professors must have put a spell on them all in hopes it would keep students in detention longer. Draco and I discovered this within minutes of our first day, since then we don't even try, only when we hear walking coming our way.

Ever since Monday, Draco has been giving me suggestive looks. Every so often he'll look me up and down, trying to get me to break and start snogging right here on the table. I try to ignore his looks and his remarks. I want that, but I can't afford another detention with it only being the first week of school. My parents would send a howler for sure.

The heavy downpour of rain pounds against the windows, leaving little raindrops racing to the bottom of the glass. I watch them intently, two raindrops neck and neck for the race. I watch them slow to a stop and tie at the bottom of the window. Another gust of wind brings hundreds of new raindrops to the window. I turn away, now staring down at the trophy in front of me, it's dusty as always. Thunder booms loudly in the distance, echoing throughout the world. I sigh and start playing with my ring, the promise ring Draco had given me. It's an emerald stone with metal wrapped around it to keep it in place.

The only sound within earshot is the wind and the rain outside the window, other than that the castle is silent. Everyone besides Draco and I must be in their common rooms, studying or partying by the warmth of the fire. Drinking butterbeer and laughing and chatting.

I stop fiddling with my ring and turn, my back now facing the window. I stare at Draco. He is sitting on the old black couch in the corner, playing with his rings just as I was doing seconds before. My eyes linger on his hands, veiny and strong. I blush as I watch him. He must feel my stares because he looks up suddenly, making eye contact with me.

When there is rain, my heart takes over. I make decisions I probably shouldn't; I go with what my heart wants and only that. I get lost in the spur of the moment and I'm spontaneous. Therefore, I run up to Draco, grab his arm, and drag him from his seat and out through the trophy room. I don't stop to look if any professors can spot us, the only thing I care about right now is getting outside.

"Where are you bringing me?" He shouts from behind me. The rain is so loud he has to yell for me to hear him.

"Just wait!" I cry out to him. My hand is wrapped around his as we run through the hall, me in the lead. The pounding of the rain gets louder as we get closer to a set of double doors. I turn my head briefly, still running at full speed. Draco is smirking at me, I return the smile. My heart races faster as my excitement builds. Soon it feels as though it's going to jump out of my chest.

When we approach the exit I push through the doors with such force they hit the walls beside them, creating a loud thud. I look up to see a sky full of dark grey clouds. Pretty soon we won't be able to see anything but a world of black.

"Tell me exactly what we're doing out here, in the rain?" Draco asks while pulling his robes tighter around him. He looks confused but intrigued. His hair sticks to his forehead as it gets wet, dripping from the tips.

"Dancing!" I shout into the world. I spin around in wide circles. I giggle as I let the rain fall on my skin, my hair, and my robes, soaking me from head to toe. The rain pours down upon my head, leaving my hair dark and curly. But I do not care how curly my hair gets, or how ruined my leather shoes get. I am living in the moment, everything in the past and the future does not matter right now. All that matters is me and Draco in this moment.

"And where's the music?" He asks, giving me a smirk. His robes have soaked through just like mine. He reaches up to his hair and messes it up. I am amazed at how hot this boy is.

"We don't need music to dance silly." I slow to a stop. I giggle once more, though I do not hear it. Sounds of thunder conceal my laughter. Draco gives me a slight eye roll but grips my waist to pull me in. So close I can feel his slow breaths, his warm beating heart. I drape my arms over his shoulders, letting them hang there, as he rests both of his hands on my waist. He then steps to the side, bringing me with him. Soon we are swaying softly back and forth. We stay like this for a while. My head rested against his chest, both of our eyes closed. We let the rain soak us through and ruin our best leather shoes. Because all that matters right now is this moment we are in.

I lift my head to stare into his blue-grey eyes. He is absolutely breathtaking. His lips form a warm smile as a raindrop falls from his nose and lands on my head. He stares back at me, making me feel truly at home. Soon the swaying motion becomes a habit, neither one of us knows we are doing it, we sway back and forth together as one. I rest my head back against his chest and watch the rain fall around us.

Without warning, Draco stops holding me to take my hand and spin me around like a ballerina. I had always wanted to be as beautiful as a ballerina while growing up, twirling around in their pink pointy shoes. Draco jerks his arm and pulls me in close. Soon we are waltzing in the rain. Whirling and dancing around the Hogwarts grounds. Neither of us has a care in the world. As we dance, Draco's hair flips from side to side, getting messier every time. I can feel the rain falling from the sky and rolling down my face, cleansing me. The rain feels cold, yet I am warm from all the excitement and serenity. We continue to waltz for a while before Draco slows his dancing and holds me close once more. Soon we are swaying to a nonexistent melody. We dance like there is music playing just for us, only we can hear its slow tempo. I close my eyes and imagine a big grand ballroom surrounding us. I picture us in a suit and a gown, dancing the night away in an old Victorian ballroom full of people. Everyone is dancing around us, though all eyes are on us. There is elegant classical music playing in the background, the kind I listen to when studying. This image leaves my mind as I open my eyes to take in what's really happening. Draco and I slow dancing in the pouring rain, holding each other close, our hair dripping wet and scraggly, me humming softly in his ear. It feels like something out of a movie. I feel a surge of happiness come up from my toes and vibrate throughout my body. In this moment, I realize, this is where I am meant to be.

A flash of light illuminates the sky, blinding me momentarily. Lightning strikes again, closer this time. This is followed by a roaring thunderclap. Draco and I are startled by the sudden change in mood. We break into a run, laughing as we sprint towards the castle. Our soaked shoes hit the stone tiles with thuds, causing water to splash up and hit our faces. I giggle more as I run right through a deep puddle, ruining my leather shoes even further. I don't stop to whine or complain, for I have no worries or concerns right now. If I must, I will deal with it later. My smile grows wider. I turn around to gaze at Draco, his face has the same childish grin. This whole situation seems so insane, so surreal. I can't imagine how it looks from another's perspective.

We run inside the open double doors and into the warm and dry castle. Draco gives me a look of pure content, I return the look as I wrap my arms around him. I giggle quietly as I move my hand up the back of his neck and run my fingers through his tangled hair. He gingerly places his smiling lips on mine and kisses me softly. This sends a rush of serotonin through my body, warming my heart. Draco releases my mouth and leans his forehead against mine, laughing gently. I can feel his slow, heavy breaths. He continues to smile wide as he closes his eyes to take in what just happened. I laugh and close my eyes.

"I love you," I say, out of breath.

"I love you. Forever and always."
