Stevie nervously paced around her kitchen waiting for Lindsey to arrive. She bit her nails as she heard a car pull up to the house and rushed to the door before Lindsey could even ring the doorbell.
"Stephanie, what's going on? You're freaking me out here. What's so important you couldn't tell me over the phone or wait until tomorrow?"
"I tried to call you last night but got freaked out when Carol Ann answered the phone. You know, I can't believe you're already seeing someone. That really hurts, Linds. Bringing her into the studio is just so petty. That's supposed to be our, our, sacred place where our passions, good and bad, spill out!"
"She was begging to watch us play. I didn't mean to hurt you, but you don't expect me to sit around and wait until you decide you want to be with me again. Do you know what that does to a man?!" Stevie felt her and Lindsey falling back into the same cycle and fight that they always do. Instead of adding more fuel to the fire, Stevie decided to relax a bit and calm down.
"Listen, I don't want to fight, ok?" Stevie took Lindsey's hand and lead him into her living room. The pair sat before a dimly lit fire.
"Ok, here's the thing. I have to tell you something, but I need to you promise me that you won't get mad or upset or anything. Promise me, Lindsey." Stevie looked sternly towards Lindsey and she noticed a bead of sweat form at his forehead. She could tell he was nervous.
"I promise I won't get mad. Now just tell me what's going on." Lindsey placed his hand atop Stevie's to reassure her.
Stevie takes a deep breath before she continues.
"Well, remember a month ago we were together. And we slept together one last time before that blow out?" Lindsey nods his head. "Well, you see, I was late and so I bought a pregnancy test, and...and, well" Stevie pulls out the pink stick from her pocket and hands it to Lindsey.
"Lindsey, I'm pregnant" Lindsey's mouth goes agape as he tries to process this news. He'd always wanted to be a father and can't believe what's happening. Tears begin to well up in his eyes and he holds Stevie tightly. He's feeling a million emotions at once.
"Stephanie Lynn Nicks, I promise to do everything in my power to protect you and this baby from this moment forward. I- Carol Ann." Lindsey runs towards the phone and starts dialing.
Stevie is surprised, and frankly, a bit annoyed.
"Carol Ann, we're done. I want you out of my house by morning. Something's come up." Stevie couldn't help but smile at hearing that.
Lindsey seemed to not even wait for a reply from the other end of the phone and hung the phone up as quickly as he dialed. He rushed back to Stevie and put his arms around her. For what seemed like hours, he just held her, sitting silently taking it all in.
Lindsey tangled his hand in Stevie's and seemed to study her delicate fingers.
"I think this should go somewhere else, don't you?" Lindsey took the gold band off of Stevie's thumb and placed it gently on her ring finger.
Stevie knew this wasn't his version of a proposal or anything, but she felt happy and safe with the ring back on its intended finger. The couple sat in silence all night, holding each other.
