Everyone was happy and lost in their own joyful world.
Except Summer.
Richard hadn't returned from work.
The girl felt tired.

Why couldn't he just chill and leave work for once?
Willow's squeals broke her out of her cloud of sadness.
"Mama, can we go out to play?" Axel bounded up to her.
"Is any adult coming with you?" The young boys face fell at the question.
"No"
"I'll come with you then" Summer said and the boys face lit up.
"Thank you mama!" He hugged her and ran out , calling the other boys.

Willow seemed to hate the cold.
"The child keeps screeching like the damn reincarnation of The Scream" Summer groaned into the phone.
Adelia clucked her tongue on the line.
"Why bring her then?"
"Since all of you numbskulls went out for Choc round two and left me behind"
"Richard?" Adelia asked and was met by silence on the line.
"That son of a...."
"No swearing!" Summer heard Joel yell and she sniggered.
"My lovely son has been constantly saying the word 'ass'." Adelia huffed "Trust me, it ain't. funny no more"
"Hang on. I'm getting a call" Summer checked her phone and froze.
It was Richard.
"Summer? Who is it?" Her friend asked.
"It's him"
"Give him a piece of your mind, woman"
Summer sighed.
Adelia was right.
Enough was enough.
Switching to his call, she put the phone to her ear.
"Hey, sugar"
The nickname hit her harder than it should have.
"Hi"
"So, I'm so sorry..."
Summer squeezed her eyes, tuning him out.
"Since when is work your utmost priority?"
She finally said and Richard stopped talking.
"What do you mean?"
"I mean, Richard" She said, gently startling a half-asleep Willow "You've been working so much in the last year, it's like you don't even care about us"
"I do, of course I do"
"Are you cheating on me?" She spat and the young boys turned to her curiously.
"What? Fuck, no, Summer, baby...."
"If you want to keep this charade up, you can damn well go ahead. Because we're done" She said and hung up.
Her eyes watered and she blinked them away.
"Mama, are you okay?" She turned to Axel who had his hand on her arm worriedly.
The concern in his eyes almost broke her.
"I will be,don't worry" She cupped his cheek, smiling.
She had to be okay.
Because she knew, his work always came first and  there  was nothing that could change that.
