Back at the beach house I found myself glancing at Jake every ten seconds and then realizing I was being creepy so I tried to not look at him at all but then I didn't want it to seem like I was ignoring him either and so I tried to look at him an appropriate amount of times. I found the whole situation very conflicting.
I also couldn't get this dumb grin off my face, no matter how hard I tried. I managed to smother the dumb expression for a moment until Jake cracked a joke and I burst out into laughter.
I felt a blush heat my cheeks when he glanced over at me innocently, his blue eyes twinkling.
My heart beat quickly as I glanced down at his soft lips. My eyes flickered back up to his and I almost jumped when I saw him staring back at me. I knew he'd caught me when a smirk flickered onto his pink lips and his eyes twinkled with mischief. 'Caught you,' he mouthed at me and my cheeks turned beet red.
I lowered my gaze, letting my hair fall over my burning cheeks as I fiddled with the hem of my shirt.
"I'm exhausted," Tracy moaned, lounging across the couch, in result putting her head in poor Matt's lap. He glanced down at her awkwardly and then looked up at me with adorable uncertainty. There was a crease in his brow and his mouth was parted open a centimeter. He looked like an adorable puppy.
I laughed heartily, feeling bad for taking pleasure in his despair but finding amusement in it none the less. "Yeah, I'm ready for bed," I offered, smiling at Matt who seemed relieved by the suggestion.
Tracy sighed, sitting up straight and crossing her arms. "Well there is a bunk bed in the backroom and a twin in the guestroom. Take your pick," she said, eyeing the three of us. "My room has a twin otherwise I'd share," she said glancing over at Jake subtly. He didn't seem to notice.
"I'm good with the bunks," I offered. I didn't like sleeping alone in other people's houses anyway, something about being in an unfamiliar place just gave me the heebie jeebies at night.
"Same," Jake said. "Matt, why don't you take the twin?"
I couldn't help the smile that slipped across my face at Jake's poorly hidden jump to share the bunks with me.
"I'm good with that," Matt said, smiling.
We all stood up and wandered back to the rooms. Jake went in front of me and opened the door to our room, pausing in the doorway.
"Well..." he said. "That's not going to work." He turned to face me with a sheepish smile.
My brow furrowed and I pushed past him into the room. No bunk bed insight. The room was practically empty. "Uh... did we get the wrong room maybe?" I asked, I turned around, wandering back down the hall to find Tracy. I got to her door, knocking gently. "Tracy?"
"Yeah?" she replied, opening the door. She was wearing a tiny black lace nightgown and I couldn't help but find it a huge coincidence that she happened to pack her sluttiest nightwear the night that she'd be rooming with two other guys.
I wanted to roll my eyes but I refrained. "There's no bunk bed in our room. Is there another room somewhere?"
She rolled her eyes, huffing and walking past me. "There's no other room," she grumbled. I watched her strut down the hall and thought what a burden it must be for her to flaunt her little nighty in front of Jake who stood hestitantly in the doorway of our room.
"Shoot," she said. "I completely forgot that my dad's trying to remodel the room and put in a queen." She turned to face us, crossing her arms and effectively pushing her boobs up, causing them to practically fly out of her dress.
