I watched as her face turned white and her eyes glazed over. "Angel?" I ask softly, afraid of startling her. A minute goes by and I still don't get a reply from her lifting my hand I go to wave it in front of her eyes, yet the moment my hand comes into her line of sight she lets out a bloodcurdling scream that sends a visible shiver down all of our spines. While we all shook off the shock of what just happened Angelica shot out of her chair and ran into the corner of the room where she slid down the wall and pulled her knees up to her chest. I stand from my seat and slowly make my way over to her with my hands raised, too afraid to freak her out again.
Once in front of her I bent down to her level before taking her hands in mine, wrapping my arms around her waist I placed hers around my neck. Holding her close I rocked her back and forth while whispering reassurances into her ear. After a couple of moments I finally felt her arms tighten around me as her cries became louder, her tears soaking through the material of my shirt.
Her sobs tore at my heart as I carried on holding her close. Nothing and no one was going to convince me to let her go in this moment. About an hour of holding she finally pulled away and looked me in the eye and said "thank you" . Her voice was so faint that if I hadn't been so close I wouldn't have heard her. Placing a kiss on her forehead in reply, I slowly help her up and over to the sofa.
Once she was seated I sat beside her taking her hands in mine once again before putting an arm over her shoulders, pulling her into my side. "What just happened Angel? You've never done that before" I ask in a gentle tone that I seem to only ever use with her. I watched as she took a deep breath before looking up at her parents who were the definition of worried right now. "When my dad called me 'sweetie' his voice came to mind and I ended up trapped in a memory from when he owned me."
Just hearing how she had reacted like that from a memory had my blood boiling, I could only imagine what she must have gone through at such a young age. I wanted nothing more than to hunt down every person that had ever hurt her and show them exactly what I am capable of. No one hurts my girl and gets away with it.
Seeing that she was close to crying again I pulled her into my lap and wrapped my arms around her waist. "nothing and no one will ever hurt you again, not If I can help it. You have my word" I tell her letting my confidence and possessiveness leak into my voice so she knew I was telling the truth and that I meant every single word.
Her mother came and sat beside me wrapping her arms with tears in her eyes. The pain was clearly visible."Honey, what did they do to you?" Delilah's voice broke as she spoke and the sadness in her eyes seemed to break Andrew's heart as he fell to his knees in front of his wife wrapping an arm around her waist while the other rested on Angel's knee. His eyes shining as he took a deep breath preparing himself.
"I was walking home when it happened...
Jessie and I were finishing off a project for our English class and I had forgotten to ask my parents to pick me up so here I am walking in the dark.
Leaving Jessie's house I walked down the street pulling my jacket tighter around me in an attempt to keep out some of the late autumn chill. The air was still damp from when it had rained earlier, looking up I saw that the sky promised to rain again. Just then a loud clap of thunder rumbled throughout the air around me causing me to jump. Laughing at my own reaction I carried on walking down the street, pulling out my phone. I messaged my cousin Jace to see if there was anything he wanted from the shop before going home.
Hearing a noise behind me I turn to see nothing, shrugging my shoulders, why am I so jumpy?, turning back around my small frame slamming into someone's chest " I am so sorry, I wasn't looking where I was going"
Tilting my head back I looked up at the tall stranger before me. Fighting to hold in a gasp at his appearance. An angry pinkish scar ran from the side of his mouth over his eye. I took a step back in fear only to feel a hand press a cloth to my face the sickly sweet yet chemical scent filling my lungs as I thrash around in his arms. my nails claw at his arm, but I'm not strong enough. Black dots fill my vision as my body falls slack. The dots grow until they completely consume me turning the world to darkness leaving me cold.
Alone.
