The next morning when I woke up, my friends were still sleeping. I turned my head to the alarm clock and realised it was only 6:30am. We still had an hour until we had to go for breakfast, so I carefully stood up. Something in the air had an eerie, bad essence. I slipped on my robe, skirt and long socks. I picked up my paddle hairbrush and brushed my soft hair, gently. I brushed my teeth with the strong, minty toothpaste. Then, I washed my face with some water and a foamy cleanser, using a flannel to wash it all off quicker. I bent down and opened the Birch cupboard, as I grabbed my makeup bag. I was naturally pretty, so I added some lip-gloss, mascara, a bit of eyeliner and highlighter. Loud yawns came from the room, and I assumed that my friends woke up. Great, another day, another boring set of classes.

They stared at me as I walked out of the bathroom. "Hurry up and get ready! I'm starving!" I rolled my eyes, staring down at the four girls with bed-head and barely awake eyes. Each one of them slid out of bed, and copied my routine. Of course they had different makeup routines, but that didn't matter. "Have you heard? Some girl died in the bathrooms! Rumour has it she's a ghost now!" Lydia chuckled. How did she already know this? Katherine raised her eyebrows, a small smirk forming on her lips. We all exchanged unserious glances, clearly not caring. To be honest, nobody in our clique actually gave a shit about the rest of the school; they were all so different.

But for me, it was easy to put on a mask and act like I was kind, but really I wasn't. Everyone said I was 'kind' or 'friendly', and me and my friends always laughed about this. Katherine was definitely the meanest, but it was a tough competition. We opened the curtains and made our bed, then we left through the common room. I saw a tall boy sat on the couch, and me and my friends laughed. He was all alone, just staring. His hair was brown and wavy, and he had an emotionless expression. "You look like a loner, are you a loner?" Rebekah said dumbly.

She was the one in the friend group who constantly messed around with guys, and got heartbroken mostly. And she was obviously really stupid. He ignored her question but stared at us. As he changed looks from each of us, we met eyes. He stared for a few seconds, but then looked away. I rolled my eyes as we walked out of the flood of dark black and green colours of the common room. When we got down to the hall, a harrowing silence slept in the air. Although professors never came down for breakfast, they all looked sorrow sat up at the front. Nobody talked, and we began up a conversation. Headmaster Dippet stood up from the front, and clapped his hands in a rhythm. "SILENCE!" he shouted down the hall to us. We exchanged concerned glances, but then it settled in. This was because of the death. We all hurried over to the Slytherin table, and sat down.

I grabbed a breakfast bar and began taking small bites on it. Katherine picked up a random piece of some kind of breakfast bar and whispers to Aria. "I really wanna lose 3 pounds," Katherine admits in a very quiet, hushed voice. The other girls stay silent and stare at her. She raises her eyebrows and widens her eyes, trying to say something. "Oh my god shut up, you're so skinny," we all whispered as quiet as a mouse back to her. She rolled her eyes as she began reading the back. "What does this mean? I don't get it," she said.

Aria picked it up and read the back. "It helps you lose weight, but there's a lot of sugar," she answered back. Rebekah stared at her, "How do you know?" she said, tilting her head in confusion. Aria stared at her, absolutely shocked at how thick she can get, "Muggle Studies. Called Maths or something," she answered back.

We all raised our eyebrows, and nodded. Everybody else came in, and they stared around. They looked confused on why it was so quiet, but they didn't begin talking. When everyone was seated and eating, Professor Dippet stood up. "We are sat in silence to honour the loss of a girl. Her name was Myrtle Warrens. We need to know, if anybody knows anything at all about this mysterious death, you MUST come to one of us and tell us. Thank you. Lessons are cancelled today, but do not think this is an excuse to be able to do anything silly. Please, remember that we have just lost a girl. And be at caution. If something isn't done, we may have to close the school," he announced. I felt a lump in the back of my throat and tears prick at the back of my eyes. No, I didn't necessarily like her, but that doesn't mean I wanted her to die.
