The side that lost

Chapter 4

It has been the same routine for many days now. They put me in a simulation, watch me get out of it and then clean me up while I am not conscious. Rest of the day I try to remain sane by doing random calculations in my mind or find patterns around me. They still provide me with proper food and I get more than enough time to sleep.

Today was the same, they gave me breakfast along with pain numbing pills. I was looking at the patterns of my fingerprint while waiting for them to put me another simulation when I heard commotion outside the room door. The noise got louder and I started to back away from the door when it suddenly burst in shreds and blue smoke filled inside the room. I body went limp and I felt someone carry me and started running down the corridor. I tried to focus but my vision was very blurry. The person carrying me met up with some other people and they started to move together. It seemed that they knew the layout of the whole place as they were now outside and had vehicles waiting for them. I looked back at the place where I had been locked up to see Delmore watching me from an open clearing in the building. He mouthed something to me when he saw me looking at him and left.

The person carrying me had put me down on a bed inside the big vehicle. There were two people who started assembling something and I slowly started getting back the feeling in my body. They had injected something which did the trick and is also making me drossy. 

I woke up to find myself in a wooden wall room with a homey feel to it. I got up and went outside to see it was night time. I heard people talking and followed the sound to see a group of people sitting around a bonfire. I could recognize the two people who were in the vehicle. I saw the person who carried me waking towards me when I got near the group.

"Nice to meet you again Athena. I believe you have lots of questions so I'll take you to the general. He has all the answers.", he said smiling.

I nodded and followed him to a large cabin. He walked me to a room which looked like someone's workplace and walked towards a wall which had a scanner. He placed a card on the scanner which beeped twice and soon the wall parted to reveal a small room. We walked in and it soon started going down. After around twenty seconds the door opened to reveal a big underground facility.

"By the way I am Greg, the place we just came from was the Ghost town. We patrol it so that no one get aware of the existence of this place.", he said the last part while gesturing at the big area filled with people working. He continued walking and telling me about the facility. They are working to build a big security network around the planet and don't want any outsiders to know about it. 

"Here we are. General Tau is waiting for you so just knock and enter. Hope to see you around Athena", he said before leaving me outside the door.

I knocked twice and entered the room. The room had a black and grey theme with wall size glass windows that looked over the whole place. I completely forgot that there was someone else in the room and got startled when that person cleared his throat. I felt like deja vu when he said the next words.

"It's nice to see you again Athena.", he said giving me a small smile.

I looked at him confused. He was tall, well build with dark skin. He might have noticed my confusion as I heard him sigh and a look of understanding passed through his face.

"So what Delmore said is true. You don't remember any of us.", he said.

I was opening my mouth to ask him why they all thought I know them when he gestured for me to stop.

"I will tell you everything that I know and then you can ask me all the questions that you have after I am finished."

I nodded in response to tell him to continue.

"I met you when you were helping Delmore build Era. I gave you both a secret place to work and also helped out in building Era.  I was also there when you asked Delmore to kill you the next time he saw you. After that you disappeared in front of us. As if you were never there. I tried to look for you everywhere but it looked as if you never existed on this planet. After two years Delmore found you and fulfilled his promise but here you are. We are as confused as you are.I-We thought you were dead. I-I didn't want you to be near him and have you gone again so I planned to get you out of there.", he said the last part hesitantly and I knew he was hiding something.

I tried to process everything he said but the only new information I got for now is that he is a new puzzle added to the many other I already have. This isn't helping me but maybe I can figure it out after having some time to myself. I obviously need to gain his trust to get answers.

"General, I would like to rest for a while as all this is getting a bit too much for me.", I told him with a fake smile.

"Please Athena just call me Tau. It is weird to hear you call me General. I will ask Greg to arrange a room for you here and we can talk tomorrow.", he said while pressing a button on his desk and soon Greg entered the room.

I left with Greg who showed me to my room and went to go back up to the Ghost town. I laid down on the bed and remembered Delmore standing and mouthing to me.

Stay alive.

I kept tossing and turning in bed trying to get rid of the uneasy feeling that I had. Let's hope that it will stay peaceful for some time.
