"All right!" The blonde boy with green eyes said, pumping his fists. "I'm going to get used to being rejected. That way, I can work towards numbing failure! Heh, maybe one day I can get a girlfriend, too..!" He grinned widely and giggled to himself as he made his way into a bookstore. His eyes darted about searching for the prettiest girl he could find. Then, he found her, a black haired girl whose blue eyes were glued onto a book. He felt bad briefly about walking up to her and disturbing her, but it was fine-this was only going to take a second, anyway.
"Hello!" The boy said. The girl's head bobbed up in what looked like surprise.
"Hi," She said.
"Hey," The boy replied. He scratched the back of his head. "So, uh, this is going to sound weird, but uh, I'm trying to get used to being rejected."
"Huh? Why?"
"It's so I can just get used to it! Y'know? It's a part of life. I wanna get rejected by a million girls! That way when the time comes for me to ask another one out, I'll do it just like that!" The blonde snapped his fingers at the end of his sentence. "So, all you have to do is reject me. Just say no to everything I say."
"..Okay."
"No- wait," The boy raised his hands and spoke quickly. "I don't think it'd work if you just said no to everything cause I told you. You gotta actually reject me. So just be honest, okay?"
"All right." The girl nodded.
"Okay! Thanks for this, by the way. Let's start..So, do you want to do my taxes?"
"No."
"Do my laundry?"
"No."
"Do my homework?"
"No."
"Okay.." The boy took a deep breath. "Do you... want to go out on a date with me?"
"Sure."
"Awesome- tha-" The boy's eyes widened. "What?!"
The girl smiled. "What?"
"Wha- You- I-..!" The blonde boy's entire face reddened. "But- You're-..! You're supposed to say no..!"
"You said to be honest."
"You- but.. Jeez..! I'm- I have no idea what to do! I- I don't even know where to go, I didn't think you'd.."
"Hey, so, I have to go now- Give me your phone number. I can pick a place. "
"Jesus christ-.." The boy had to take several deep breaths to calm his rapid beating heart. They managed to exchange phone numbers despite the boy only being able to sputter. The girl waved him goodbye and left, and even after watching her walk out that door, he was still shaking.
Then- an overwhelming happiness overcame him.
