Karina POV
Its been a month since I first came to earth, and I haven't yet seen another angel.
Thats good news I suppose. The truth is, It could be good or bad. Maybe I've just been lucky and havent yet run into any, or maybe they are hiding.
Waiting for something.
Or it could just be me getting paranoid.
Probably just me being paranoid.
I've got a right to be paranoid though. If anyone in hell ever found out what I did.... Let's just say it would be painful. I'd get sent to the centre of hell, with the worst tortures possible. It would not be nice. I'm still wondering why I let the angel go. I'm not really sure, I think it's just that she looked so sweet and innocent. It would take a monster to kill an angel.
But I'm meant to be a monster.
So why didn't I kill her?*•*•*•*•*•*•*•*•*•*•*•*•*•*•*•*•*•*•*•*•
I'm back on earth. It's raining, and humans are rushing around, trying to stay dry. But I don't mind the rain: it's a refreshing break from the heat of hell.
Suddenly, I find that the ground is next to my face. While I was thinking, someone crashed into me and pushed me over.
"Oh my gosh, are you ok? I'm so sorry, I was in a rush..."
I'm just about to chew this person out when I look up, into dark blue eyes that don't quite fit with her dark skin.
The angel is back.
Quick as a flash, I stand up and grab the angels hand. Then I drag her along the street and into an alleyway. Before she can even move, I've got a knife made of hellfire at her throat.
"I told you that if I ever saw you again, I would kill you."
The angel looks right into my eyes.
"If you were going to kill me, you would have done it when we first met. I just want to talk."
I should slit this angels throat. But I can't. No matter how hard I try, I can't do it.
I put the knife back into my pocket. It disappears, but I can still feel it's weight. I look at the angel.
"Want to get some coffee?"
*•*•*•*•*•*•*•*•*•*•*•*•*•*•*•*•*•*•*•*•
I look down into my mug of coffee. It's now half empty, and the angel has finished her hot chocolate, but neither of us have said anything yet. I put down my mug.
"Ok, first things first. I keep thinking of you as 'the angel'. What's your name?"
"I'm Arya. What about you?"
"Karina."
"That's nice. Does it mean anything?"
I blink at her.
"It's a name, a way of identifying who I am. Why would it need a meaning?"
"Well, we always have a meaning behind our names. For example, Arya means noble."
"Huh. Mine probably means evil or something."
She laughs: a pure, smooth sound that reminds me of melted silver. It makes me feel happy, a feeling which is practically unknown to me.
"Perhaps that's what it means. I can search it if you want."
"Search it? How?"
"Using my phone."
She pulls out a smartphone out of her bag and starts rapping at the screen. So when an angel comes to earth, she gets a bag, knives made of light, cash (who do you think paid for the drinks?) and a phone, but I have to beg for some kind of weapon? Guess things work differently in heaven.
"Here we go. Karina is a female given name of modern usage. It can be a variant spelling of Carina (from Latin carus = love) or a short form of Katarina/Katrina. It is mainly used in Greece, Scandinavia and Poland; when spelt Carina it is used in Italy and Spain. In Greece it means "pure" while in Poland it is more likely derived from Ekaterina, another variant of Catherine - again meaning "pure". So your name means pure."
"Not my first guess. But then again, pure might not be a good thing. I mean, you can be pure evil as well as pure good.""Somehow I dont think that you are pure evil. If you were, I'm pretty sure I would be dead by now. But you had the chance to kill me, and you didn't. Why?"
"I've been wondering about that too actually. I dont really have an answer. Maybe I'm just really stupid. I am having a drink with an angel. Considering I am the heir to hell, this is probably one of the stupidist things I've ever done."
"Well, I'm a hunter. I'm trained to kill you. And yet I was the one who tracked you down in the first place. So maybe we are both really stupid."
"I guess we are both really stupid."
She smiles.
"All my life I've been told that demons are pure evil, but I don't think that's true. And I'm not sure if all angels are good anymore. I mean, we kill demons. Surely the best thing to do would be to let you guys do what you want?"
"If you did that, I'm pretty sure most of the demons I know would have destroyed the earth long ago."
"Maybe. Maybe not. Who knows?"
I look at the clock that's hanging over the door.
"I need to leave now, or my absence will be noted. But can we meet again? I'd like to meet up and find out more about angels."
Arya looks shocked, but nods.
"I'd like to find out more about demons as well. How about if we meet here, same time, two weeks Thursday?"
"This is probably a really stupid idea. See you then!"
