Tw!!!!!
Domestic Violence

After Satori hung up, Wakatoshi remained in his room, staring at the phone in his hand. Satori's offer to stay over ran through his mind, but he didn't move right away. Outside his room, the muffled shouts of his parents grew louder, more intense, and harder to ignore. His father's voice, booming with rage, echoed through the walls.

"I WANT A DIVORCE. AND I'M TAKING WAKATOSHI!" his mother screamed.
He flinched, his body tensing against the doorframe.
"FINE! I DON'T NEED YOU! I DON'T NEED HIM, OR EVEN WANT HIM FOR THAT MATTER! HE'S AN EMOTIONLESS FREAK!"

His father's cruel words cut through him like a blade.
Emotionless freak
That's how he saw him. It wasn't the first time he'd said something like that, but it still hurt.

Quietly, Wakatoshi opened his door just enough to peek out and see what was happening downstairs. His mother stood face to face with his father, her fists clenched, her whole body shaking. He watched her grab his father's collar, her voice trembling with fury.
"NEVER speak about my son that way! You're just a deadbeat-"

Then his father hit her.
It happened so fast that Wakatoshi's mind barely registered it, but the sound. The sickening smack of his father's hand against her cheek, sent a surge of anger roaring through him. His body moved before he could think, fists ready to fly, but he froze as his mother screamed.

"GET OUT BEFORE I CONTACT THE POLICE!"
His father flipped her off, his face twisted with rage, and stormed out of the house, slamming the door behind him.
For a moment, everything was still. The only sound left was his mother's quiet sobbing. Ushijima swallowed the lump in his throat and hurried down the stairs, finding her collapsed on the floor, crying into her hands. Without a word, he crouched beside her, wrapping his arms around her, holding her tightly. She clung to him, her body trembling with each sob, and he wished he knew how to make things better.

"I'm sorry," he whispered, though he didn't know what he was apologizing for.
She took a deep breath, trying to calm herself, and wiped her tears.
"Could you stay with Satori for a week or so?" she asked, her voice hoarse.
"I don't want you to have to go through this again. We both know he's probably going to come back..."
Her eyes were swollen, red from crying, and the sight of her like this made Wakatoshi's chest hurt.

He nodded.
"I'll stay with him," he promised, his voice steady, though inside, he felt like he was crumbling. He went back up to his room and packed a bag. Enough clothes for a week, his school uniform, and anything else he might need. He didn't know how long he'd be away from home, but the thought of staying there made his stomach churn. Hugging his mother one more time, he left the house.
